Engine changes to Diesel x7xx series.

Not too much more to add, other than reaffirm my X748 has all the power I could ever use (blowing 2 feet of snow or rough cutting 1 foot of grass with my 54" deck). It sips fuel.

My X585 ran like a top, was thirsty but it was gas so... It got thru the snow and grass, just not quite quick as the X748. After several years, it looked like new, no paint flaking off the frame or wheels.

When I traded it in, my dealer had several potential purchasers lined up and I'd say it stayed on his lot for about 1 hour. He got top $ for it (for which I'm glad as everyone has to make money, and increases my trade value!).

That's the nice part about these machines. If you ever find yourself in a pinch, and you have to sell it, these X7xx series, especially the diesels, sell faster then you can blink an eye. These machines are one of the very few things today that are always worth money, no matter what.

My dad just updated his 749 this past fall, and when I was switching the cab, accessories etc, I noticed that the motor was smaller, and the filter is in a different location, injection pump is different etc. So a few weeks ago I got to run it the first time blowing snow and to be honest I thought that it was down on power. It seems like with all of his older diesels, back to a 495, I could push about any amount of snow with out the motor actually snuffing out. This one seems like I hardly have to be in the snow heavy and it will load the motor and I a have to slow down. I don't know but I think that the pump is going to get the screws turned a bit.

Just my thoughts,

Dustin

I had a 2004 or 2005 740 for 3 or 4 years and knew how it worked heavy snow with the snow-blower which I thought was pretty good but would bog down occasionally . I traded and got a different 740 about 2 years ago, and from that change the new one was much stronger. It wouldn't bog down hardly at all in heavy snow.

I was tempted to trade this year or next year for another one, basically to keep the warranty up to date, but I don't know if I want to do that now. I read the engine sizes went from 1.1 Litre to .9 Litre. The size is 75# lighter and physically smaller now. The HP is supposed to be the same. It runs at 3600 RPM's now instead of 3200 RPM's to do the work. You are saying there are other changes as well.

I thought they still may work the same, but after listening to comments, maybe I'll keep the strong one I have unless I hear from others the new ones are better.
