Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge 4540/4550

   / Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge 4540/4550 #21
I have a 2018 4540 I got new in March of 2019. I was also concerned about the low reading or lack there of. It will raise when under constant load like mowing. The first time I saw significant movement on the gauge, I was driving on the road in 4th gear to my in-laws for an implement. Once I started using the brush hog for mowing I saw that the gauge was working. I'm not sure how hot or cool its running but certainly doesn't tell me 210 degrees with the gauge needle halfway up like my truck does after driving 1/4 mile.

What I found with my 2018 4540 is when you work with it alot one day like you do lot of hard work with it. The needle will move. It just takes them alot to heat up that's all. That's just what I found.

Can you post the sn# of the tractor? I'll check if the reflash has been done

Janbone, my SN is PNFY1571 KF

Sorry about the delay, the last time I had a chance for quality time with the tractor I was focused on a different problem and forgot to a take a pic of it.

No reflash for your issue. Mahindra recommends installing new hose bib fitting with orifice. PART # 006029544D1.Its Easley installed in the radiator fill neck. It restricts flow to the EGR

I'm waiting for my barn to get built so I have a place to set up and work. I'm not experienced enough yet to work under the hood on a tractor in the grass out in a field.

I bet there are many here who do that all the time.

The restrictor is really easy to install. Bet it would take 5 minutes. There are threads here on the forum that go over this issue. You should fix it sooner than later, as proper operating temperature is important for longevity.

Thanks for the encouragement jb1390. I'll order the part. I hope I'm almost done with my current tractor project and can move on to this one.

Yes, the part is easy to find at Parts & Service I Mahindra North America , cost less than $5 and easy for a non-mechanic to replace. Now I've got a problem with apparently frozen brake so haven't had a chance to work it yet and see if the gauge registers heat. Lots of chances to learn!
