Hey

I was looking at this Engine driven welder I heard some where that a welder generator can be used as a generator?
The thing is listed as three phase does that mean it can generate 3ph auxiliary power?

I'd say yes. Miller and I think Lincoln also have some welders with 3 phase aux. power. A lot of people have bought the smaller air cooled welders because they also have a big generator and are often cheaper than buying a stand alone generator.

Beware the small air cooled welder/generators are tough on fuel.The are nice units to have;I prefer the larger four cylinder water cooled machines,a lot more expensive.You may be able to find one used.

I did a search on that Longevity Engine drive and found nothing.!:shocked: I know how people feel about the offshore welders, but com on.

On specs it looks good but it would be nice if the website actually had something on it when you open the different links. $9000 for a machine that might be hard to find parts for in 5 years would be my concern.

Get more info. Better 3 phase generators have many leads coming out of the generator, enabling one to reconfigure for numerous scenarios. IE delta, wye, 208, 240, or full capacity on single phase. It wouldn't do to buy then find it can't conform to your power needs. The flip side of the coin is that commercial machines that appeal to me are often 3 phase. As I don't have three phase at home, this is attractive. The best machines can be switched between voltages and phases.
