I'd be suprised if it is crap in the tank after you stressed how clean you had it , and that it had been done twice at the garage . In regard to a pickup screen , you can buy a Nylon push on screen for paint spray guns . They simply push on over the pickup tube on a spray gun so that particles cannot get into the paint finish of a car . Also make sure the return line in the tank is not beside the pickup tube opening as airated fuel from the return could be sucked into the pickup .

It seems to have fixed it so far. It ran like a top for two hours at PTO speed going through weeds that were 5 foot tall out in that field. That's a pretty decent load for a 14 foot mower I guess. I had a tiny bit of black smoke but I'll take that any day over white. That's only a side effect of what the pump shop did. He said he turned it up just a bit to the dealer. I'll still reserve judgment until I can get this cutting of hay in. It just has to be on time. A man is coming all the way from San Antonio, about a 7 hour drive, to buy it all and that will help a whole lot if I can be on time.

I found several new socks in my tool box for the pickup tube. a bunch of them are clamp on ones and will work just fine in it. The return is very close to it and I am going to look into moving that. It doesn't seem right to me either. For now, while it still has a few days of warranty I'm not touching a thing though. I'm scared to even fuel it up but I guess I have to. It was a little over 3/4 full when the dealer got it this time and now it's under a quarter. They ran about half a tank through it this time. Or dumped some. I swear I just can't figure it though with crap in my tank. I'm ordering a locking fuel cap from Messicks on Monday just in case. I am also keeping it in a more secure area, one where I can take a safe rifle shot if needed. That is the only explanation I can think of is someone screwed with me. Possibly several times. The little criminals I have in mind as being the only ones dumb enough have already been warned and won't be warned again. Not for this but about coming on my property at all. In that family one is a child molester, one did time for armed robbery, one several times for drunk driving and disorderly conduct. Even the mother there has gang tattoos. Isn't it great living in the country?

Ya know we also have three pretty mean dogs here. Big ones. They have never failed to wake me up if someone or something was on the property before. I just can't figure this out at all and now I'm paranoid. Do I need to put another filter on my fuel supply? Possible three or 4 of them. If this thing is that sensitive how about using an aircraft fueling rig to fuel it up? Those things go through some serious filters.

I had a similar problem a while ago posted about it. It was a combination of crap in the flapper valve in the lift pump not very big I will say and a solder ball rolling around in the fuel tank. very small solder ball. rolled around till it landed down the supply tube . not big enough to go down , just sat there .
Went through everything you did but by myself. took a long time .
Probably not a solder ball in a plastic tank but could be shreds. Sounds like you might have gotten it though.

I did find plastic shavings the same color as the tank the first time I cleaned it and checked the filters. A couple dead flies too. I really wish I knew how those got in there.

The flies or the shavings?

The shavings I can figure out. Tank seams, threads on the cap. The flies I can't figure out since it's going through a filter and I never leave my cap off. Still a dead fly shouldn't be plugging it up at the tank. That's what the filter is for.

I found a piece of headed out timothy hay in the flexible line trying to get into the banjo fitting on the fuel filter on the last tractor I had that would lose prime. I'm not sure how it made it through the mess of fittings and tubing to there. No troubles after cleaning that out and blowing the line out back to the tank.

We wondered about how it got in there until a friend said he caught his daughter dumping grass in his fuel tank, she was play "filling it up".
