Engine Oil Leak

When I picked mine up from the factory Pt made sure every thing was tight because I trailored it from tazwell to Connecticut. After I drove it for 10 hours I still had to tighten up some wheel motor hoses . My dad was a john deere machanic for a long time and said that this is part of owing a tractor or any equipment. Stuff wiggle loose

Funny. I was told they never issued receipts unless. I was curious as to why I hadn't received any documentation thinking Overnite might want to see something when I picked up the shipment but also thinking it would be nice to have some formal documentation of the sale. After all, you get a receipt for buying a pack of gum...you should automatically get one when putting down 5 figures for a tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyhow, Kristie faxed one to me a copy of the original order that had been signed by her along with the Overnite waybill. I'm satisfied with that.

I will point out that during the entire transaction Kristie was very responsive and I only contacted her via email for the entire transaction. She was on top of things the whole way so I never felt I had to call.

We bought ours with a credit card so we got proof of purchase real fast. The credit card company called us that day to ask if we authorized such a large purchase in VA. I like that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like somebody needs to talk to the hose clamp tightening department. This makes 3 on this forum that I know of (including mine). Fortunately, we all caught them in time!

I'll pass the concerns to the QC Dept. in Hudson, WI. I apologize for this on behalf of our Company, this should not have happened. However, we're just all humans and make mistakes on a regular basis.

Jack:
I am really thankful of the way you monitor and respond to questions and problems here on the power trac forum. My pt 422 with Robin engine has been a real good engine with 820 hours on it and no problems so far. Thanks!!

That's why we're here for and I'm glad it's appreciated. Note that a lot of technical support reps from "other" companies are pretty much old school on the way the support is being done (phones, faxes etc.) Not many tech's are willing to spend some time on various message boards. I think that with today's technology, internet capabilities, reaching out to the customers via many different ways is a major factor in satisfactory customer service.

You can count on my support thru these forum for as long as I stay employed with this company. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Let me know if you become employed at another engine company. I am willing to switch motors to keep you as my Technical Support.

Happy Thanksgiving

How true!

I was cleaning up my unit, and I noticed several drips of engine oil on garage floor, under the drain hole at the left rear of the tub. On further scrutiny, lo and behold all FOUR of the hose clamps (two to the oil cooler, one of which I found loose before, and two to the oil filter) had loosened over a Summer of busy use. An oily dusty residue had accumulated on each where small oil leaks trapped dust and chaff.

They were a b**ch to secure again. With some rearrangement of two of the clamps, I was able to get a long screwdriver through the openings in the rear of the tub and tighten them securely. For the other two, there was no such luck with a screwdriver. However, I did find that a 9/32" hex drive bit fits the hose clamp hex screws. Using a small right angle ratcheting hex bit driver, it was no problem to tighten these two buggers securely.

Thought I would pass on this tip to include in our "e-manual," since removing the engine to get at those screws was not an option. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My preference for tightening hose clams is always to use a hex socket. In fact, if you can use hex over a screw driver always do so as screwdrivers tend to slip and damage the head when they do so especially under torque.

So far I love my Robin engine. Almost at a whopping 18hours! It does have that backfiring problem that others have written about but it's not a big deal and PT does have some custom tail pipe and muffler assembly installed. It's kind of whacky as I've never seen a square tubed exhaust pipe before and the the rectangular muffler glows a soothing red where the pipe enters it. Who needs a tail light???? I've also never seen an exhaust get that hot before (so hot that it glows). Somehow I bet that these are all clues as to why the back firing problem exists.

In another thread it was mentioned to try shutting down at full throttle...I have found that shutting down and at the same time kicking down the throttle to half way seems to have solved my problem on the back fire...worst I've had is a very minimal run-on.
