I used to think that I would use all synthetic too, but this weekend I went looking for my usual Rotella T 5W-40 for my annual oil change. But all the places I went either quit selling it or was sold out. There was no synthetic 5w-40s available so I ended up with Rotell 15W-40. So instead of spending $30 for enough oil for one oil change I spent $24 for enough oil for two changes. I don't know what happened to the supply of the synthetic oils? The first place I went had Mystik JT-8 synthetic blend 15w-40 but I kept looking for full synthetic.

Hurricane Ike took most of the refineries that manufacture sythetic feed stock offline in 2008, much of that feedstock is manufactured by ExxonMobil in the Houston area and in Baton Rouge. Maybe there is still some shortage.

I bought a case of oil yesterday from my Kubota dealer, he brought out a case of Blue Holland Oil. I asked what happened to the kubota oil, he said same oil, kubota is 3 times the cost. What I got cost $55. Guess I need to explore other oil options.

I have noticed that the newer automobile engines are using a lower viscosity oil than which I believe is only to meet the fuel mileage standards.

Not too long ago was told it was also due to the tighter tolerances today's engines are built too.


I found two gallons of Rotella Synthetic as TSC today but went to Wal Mart and they had about 5 or so gallons. They also had 5 gallon buckets of hyd oil. Surprised me.
