Really taking my time, that's all you can do at my age, it took about 4 hours. That's installing new seat too. These are really easy engines to work on.

I had the head at a machine shop for valve grinding and new valve seals, I got it back about 12:30 and I was mowing by 6:00. You have to figure a nap in there too.

I guarantee the tractor will definitely out last me!!!!

I finished mowing with it this morning. It has more power and I love looking at the gauges and seeing it on 160-180 degrees even pulling hard!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

(Eddie or the tractor?)

Hopefully both!

Eddie,

Did you just do the upper end? Was there any taper in the bore? Curious about the crank, rods and generally, ware patterns in .000.

I just did the upper end. Took rods & pistons out and checked rod throws on the crank they were standard, didn't do anything to mains since the oil pressure was 35psi at idle. There was no wear on the bore. I have seen other engines with a wear lip you could hook your fingernail on but this engine had no wear at all. I honed the cylinders good, cleaned the pistons, installed rings then slipped pistons in cylinder.

I only have one very small water leak at the top of the water pump where the sensor for the temperature guage goes, just a little tightening.

I would use plumber's thread sealant, tape or silicone sealant on that.

Here's what the old rings looked like in the cylinder.
