I am trying to revive a shredder engine that I purchased second hand 25 years ago but never used by me. I decided to bring it back to life because I am doing some composting. The engine is a Tecumseh LAV 50, mod 62001.

Problem: it runs for 4-5 seconds, then stops. Here is what I have done so far.

1. Dismantled and totally cleaned the carb, soaked in cleaner and blew all the jets. The carb looked pretty good inside where it doesn't appear to be in need of a rebuilding kit. Gaskets are good.
2. Clean points and they are producing a nice healthy spark.
3. Clean gas and lines.
4. Compression is good and cylinder walls look also good.

The carb originally was off, so I reconnected the way I think it supposed to be. The solid link goes to the throttle and the governor arm, the spring goes to the control. In order to connect the throttle link, I had to loosened the governor arm to make it reach as shown in the pic.
I am looking for some ideas. I believe the problem maybe related to the governor linkage but I really don't know what to do.
Help!
