Rather then climb on the tire and over the loader with a 6 gallon container of diesel (about 48lbs), spill a little here and there, getting it on my hands, holding it until it empties, draining most of the strength from my outstretched arms and feeling my back tighten I decided to bite the bullet and get a "Gas Caddy" from the Handy company. It holds 30 gallons, rolls easily on wheels, has a hand pump and is very well built. It's kinda pricey, but I figure it will last and make what really ends up being one of the worst things about tractoring a pleasure. If your curious its at: Handy Gas Caddy

Youch, you're right RaT! Certainly does look like a nice setup though. I've taken to only putting about 4 gallons in my can lately. My tank only holds five anyway, and it's never completely empty when I fill it up so 4 works out most of the time and is a lot easier to muscle up there /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I must be even lazier !! I use two 2.5 gallon cans with a five gallon reserve can !!!

On my L3010 I pull the plug from the fuel nozzle, rest the can on the crosspiece to the FEL, and in one easy motion tuck the end of the rubber nozzle into the tank while laying the can down. When the fuel hose is safely inside the filler and the can is laying down with all the weight on the crosspiece, I remove the can's vent cap and let her rip.

When the Lxx30 series came out I was all ready to trade up...but the orientation of the fuel filler cover wouldn't make my refueling method possible. On such a small thing I talked myself out of upgrading.

Does this make sense to anybody? Jeez. Two beers and I ramble on... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Rob, I really agonized over this extreme exuberance! Alot of dough for something really pretty simple. It's not so much whether the gas caddy is worth it. The build is top notch. The question is whether I should induldge in such a item that really is easy to overcome. Sure I could fill my 3, 6 gallon cans up half way. One thing that swayed me was being able to dump 1/2 half a bottle of Stanadyne diesel additive into a 30 gallon caontainer, get a good mix, and pump it directly into my tractor. I can also choose to suck 30 gallons out of my truck rather then haul the gas caddy to the station to fill it up. It sucks or pumps depending on the rotation of the pump. Handy makes some very handy and great stuff. OK, I indulged, I bought a device that is really, really a luxury, but hey, life is good now. A Kubota L3830 HST and a gas caddy, wow, I'm set.... Rat....

I hear ya Rat and I can't tell you how many times I've been on the fence in purchasing something (want v. need) but got swayed by design/quality. I'm a sucker for clever engineering /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(84.8 L) fuel tank is easy to fill from both sides of tractor…

Hey Mark,

Maybe you need a JD5205…? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
