A few years ago, a friend dropped by my house (people do NOT just drop by where I live...) He had a 300 gallon fuel tank in the back of his truck. He said he'd bought two in an auction, this was my half the deal. (what deal? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) I paid the man his $300.00 and it has just sat there.

My new tractor uses enough diesel, and is not too convenient to fill. So I called the bulk fuel guy, and I can save a pretty good chunk by getting it from him.

Sure was a great idea I had getting that tank...

That's about what the 250 gallon bulk tank I made cost. I used a discarded heating oil tank and added a Great Plains transfer pump. I have the petro distributor fill it when they fill our 5,000 gallon tank on the main farm.

If I could easily replace the E4 with a manual and do it economically I would be tempted to do it. Did I mention by turning the handle on my 30 gallon gas caddy with the 10 X 2.75 semi pnuematic tires and powder coated red paint job the opposite way it sucks fuel. That price is a fraction of the cost of maintaining a hosed-up back. Betwen chiro and meds and PT, I spend well over a grand a year. Insurance covers most of it,..But

You can't, however. You'd need a new bell housing and the tail shaft is completely different. Besides, you'd have to hang a clutch pedal and you'd have to go with the dreaded hydraulic actuator for the clutch. As far as my 250# tank, I could put it on wheels and put a tongue on it but I have a diamond plate aluminum 100# tank that goes in the back of my 350 Ford that works in the field. It has an electric pump too!!!!!! I do like your gas caddy, however, it would work good for filling my riding lawnmower, weed wackers and other small gasoline powered tools. I think I'm going to order one. At least I won't put diesel in my lawnmower anymore.

RaT, I feel your pain. I have a JD 4410 that I have to climb all over to get the fuel in as well. I just use a REALLY BIG filter funnel which seems to catch any spills. You would think they would design the dad gum busted thing better than that! I have a 30 gallon drum I am going to use for refueling with a hand pump and hose in the future.

I guess I don't know enough about how hand turned pumps work, but one of the reasons I went with a gravity setup is because I tried to picture myself reaching down and turning the crank while reaching up and holding the nozzle in the filler, and at the same time getting to where I could see when it was close to full. (The other reason is because I'm too cheap to buy an electric pump.)
