Hey all .. this may be an unusual question ... but it qualifies as a project ... although small ...

The wife and I are looking at new entry doors for our house. Ours in an old wood hollow core door that has a huge gap at the bottom and sometimes, depending on the weather, will stay closed.

We have been looking at Home Depot, mainly because we have a whole bunch of gift cards to that store. They carry a brand specific to them called Feather River. Looking at the door, it looks quality, fiberglass door with triple pane glass, wood jambs, and it is paintable. I have heard mixed reviews about them, and there is not a lot of information out there.

I asked the worker there about them, and he said the only issues they have heard of are hinges, and it has only been a couple ...

The alternative would be a Jeld-wen door that is more expensive, but made right up the road. They also sell Masonite entry doors.

I just don't want to spend a whole bunch of money, then have it be junk and have to replace it again in a couple of years ... We are trying to stay somewhere around 4-500 dollars. It is a single 36 x80 door with no sidelights.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Given what is going on in this day and time I would opt for a high security door even at the expense of giving up attractiveness...If it were me I would look for a solid core steel entry door and put a peep hole in it so when someone comes to your door you can see who is there and have a dead bolt...The doors with all the fancy glass in front....like we have are a mistake...no security there at all...What is more important ...fancy looks or security..hope you have better luck with your Mrs. than I did with mine...funny thing..the more secure steel door is cheaper than the fancy door with the glass..

That's an interesting thought. I haven't considered the security of it. I'm sort of naive assuming if someone hasn't taken and axe or something to our wooden door ... they wouldn't touch a newer one ...

Thanks for the input.
