Enviros trying to ban our Kubotas?

Not to defend the Gub'ment or the EPA, but tought emissions regs were the best thing ever to happen to cars. High energy electronic ignitions, electronic, computer controller fuel injection, etc have made gas engines more efficient, far more reliable and driveable, and thankfully relegated the carburetor and points the the trash heap. Good riddance.

Personally, I don't like driving behind large, smoke belching equpment, and I think they should have to clean them up. My BX2200 emits virtually no smoke, except during startup and large power changes.

A. The number of physicians in the U. S is 700,000.
b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.
c. Accidental deaths per physician are 0,171. (US Dept. of Health & Human Services)

a. The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000.
b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) are 1,500.
c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is . 0000188.
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Have no fears. All of the engine manufacturers are working towards engines that comply with the enviro. rules. As more and more announce, everyone else will need a compliant engine to remain competitive.

You should read "Diesel Engines Clean Up Their Act" at www.machinedesign.com

While Kubota was not mentioned, JD and Yanmar were, and everyone will have the same enviro features before Big Brother shuts anybody down.

Note that my BX22 came with a certificate that if meets California smog standards, which are generally ahead of the federal standards.

I just read where motorcycle exhaust noise is being assessed in Idaho. Many times cars did not switch lanes and run me off the road because they didn't see me but they heard me causing them to look again.

upgw,

What does this have to do with emission standards set by the gov't? Don't you think they'd come along regardlessly?

Not as soon as they did. The emissions rules just made these improvements come along a lot sooner. We'd probably all still be driving cars with carburators.

At the risk of getting jumped-on/flamed by rabid tractor fanatics and/or rabid anti-environmentalists: I'm all for cleaning up diesel engines. If I'd had the data on which company had the cleanest burning engines when I bought my tractor, that would have played a role in my decision making process. As it is, I am investigating sources of bio-diesel in my area for use in my tractor, and considering making my own bio-diesel. This fuel reduces most harmful emissions to a fraction of what burning petro-diesel gives off, and is made largely from renewable energy sources. In some European countries, it is mandated as a 10 or 20% blend with petro diesel to reduce emissions.

Yes, I like my tractor, yes, I drive a car. I also do a lot of hiking, backpacking, and occasionally rock climbing. I volunteer to fly environmental organizations over areas to monitor conservation easements and keep track of whether companies who have been busted for illegal polluting are now toeing the line. I don't claim to have the perfect answer for balancing environmental concerns with economic or other concerns, but I do feel the US could be doing a far better job in the environmental area. Regulating off-road diesels (and other engines) does not seem to me to be a radical, enviro-**** thing to be considering.

It would of been a Kubota in your yard instead of the NH. They have passed all of California emmissions standards and have the cleanest burning diesels of the compacts... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
