EPA approval??

Glad to hear that...I don't plan on running mine at WOT for ANY number of days straight.

Can I ask WHY the EPA is so picky about this and require such a test?

I guess we'll find out in 2006. I've been importing raw materials from China since 1987. I disagree with you in one area...the Chinese will go to great lengths to improve their manufacturing capabilities. The FarmPro 8240 I have is a perfect example. As for engines and the EPA, like I said, we'll see what happens in 2006. I guess I don't really understand the issue of certificates and no one knowing how to deal with it. I went on the EPA website and there is a list of previously qualified engines. All that's required is asking the manufacturer for the EPA issued certificate # and verifying that it's a real certificate???????

2006 is fast approaching. One thing I did notice about the FarmPro 8240 and Foton's....the recent asking price (dealer) has increased.

Relax......a lot of tractors are bought and used for portable generators. I know a dealer who sold a 572 Belarus that basically never did anything but run a generator. Last time I talked, the engine had over 9,000 hours. Treat the engine well, it'll last a very long time.

Interesting resouce, thans for posting. I could spot 3 chinese tractor engine companies, one of which, Shandong Huayuan Laidong Engine Co.,LTD. , I was not familiar with. Of course I did not see any chinese engines on the 2006 list yet.

Why is this so hard to understand...... They take legitimate #'s and attach them to illegitimate engines. If EPA did a spot check test the Chinese engine would not pass. The engine they copied there engine from the one they stole the EPA # off of though, would pass.

China used to mark every engine with 1998 manufacture dates to get a grandfather exemption. You would have thought they built 100 million engines that year then stopped. The truth was it was BS.

Believe what china tells you but until their engines pass an EPA spot check I won’t believe that they are compliant. I have seen the current engine torn down in our shop and they don’t differ from the 1998 models (that couldn’t pass an EPA test 5 years ago) one bit.

The risk of prison is not worth the reward of tractor sales.

The one dealer we talked to said the prices were going up, due to more shipping cost , higher fuel prices = higher shipping cost..

the engine in the farm pro ,fonton, that is a perkins,,, real perkins or clone? everyone advertises perkins.. if it is a perkins, do they make higher hp engine that meets compliance?

what will this mean for heavy equipment,,(JCB) I think there is a perkins engine in our rubber tire hoe at work

I guess you've got to ask Buck....he knows it all. Perkins engine in Chinese tractors are built by the Perkins licensee in China. We'll know in about 30 days whether or not the Chinese tracotrs will be imported. Who knows......you could call Homier and ask. The dealer I bought the 8240 from said they will be bringing the tractors in. Apparently everyone has an opinion.

I thought it was pretty self evident and straight forward...you look up the manufacturer find the emgine and see whether it has been certified. No listing = no certification. If it isn't on the list it isn't certified.....so buyer beware!
