Anybody ever had this? I was originally going to go a place and have LASIK performed, but they upset me when they told me the WaveFront technology would be an additional $700 per eye /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I started looking at some other alternatives. I ended up going to a place here in town called Columbus Laser Center with Dr. Robin Beran. Supposedly one of the top LASIK surgeons in the country. After going through their exam they've determined that the first place must have measured my cornea thickness incorrectly /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. They don't feel that I'm a good candidate for traditional LASIK. Not enough room for "Enhancements" though I still would be above the FDA guidelines - though just barely. So he wants to do the Epi-LASIK which will give us an estra 150 microns of thickness. Just looking for feedback one way or the other. Oh, BTW, not much time. I'm scheduled to have this done today at 1:30. Leaving here in about 45 minutes... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Jim
I don't know anything about your problem. But my Aunt had surgery done at the Kellog Eye Center in Ann Arbor Mi. What difference. She has wore Coke bottle glasses for most of her 62 years. No glasses required except for very fine print reading.
I would be interested in hearing how yours turns out.

My wife had RK, radial keratotomy done about 8 or 9 years ago. She has not had to wear glasses since then. It was before Lasik was approved. In fact the eye doctor had a new lasik machine in his office and was waiting on FDA approval.

Hi Ron
Just curious about the name of the doctor that performed your aunt's surgery. I am going next Monday to Kellog to see if I am even a canadite for Lasik.

Whatever you do, do NOT have lasik on top of RK. My wife had RK in 1991, and lasik in Sept. of 2000 (her RK incision opened up during the lasek surgery), and suffered major complications about 15 months ago. Her cornea is permanently scarred and she has only recently found any sort of therapeutic lenses that have helped her see out of that eye. BAD thing. I wouldn't do lasik on a bet as a result. Neither will her most recent doctor. He wears glasses.

Newest thing now is something called Crystal Lens. Basically the same as catarac surgery except the crystal lens is flexible and the eye muscles can flex it to focus just like it did when you were young. Traditional catarac surgery used a more rigid lens (that's what I had) to replace a lens that is starting to cloud. I can see OK again still need glasses to correct my vision. I am always a day late and dollar short. Or in this case many dollars short as the Crystal Lens procedure costs in the range of $5K per eye. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

She is on a trip to the west coast. Will not be back for 10 days. I left a message on her phone. May get a reply before she gets back.
Read BB_TX post. I believe she had something similar. Original reason for visit is that she had Cataracts.

I'm back. Things seemed to go well - at least so far. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Right now I can see OK - not perfect yet but OK. The Dr. said that I probably would today but then it would go down hill so to speak as the eye heals. And then finally in probably a week I would be back to pretty good vision again. With it continuing to improve. With sight as bad as what mine was I could very likely end up needing an "enhancement" a few months down the road. I guess time will tell on that one. So far only minimal pain.

Also wanna say thanks to Jerry (Inspector507) for calling a checking on me. Makes you feel good when you are thought of enough for someone to call and check on you.
