I've been toying with the idea, but am not sure it would solve my issues. One eye is 20/20 and the other is 20/50, so I find myself using the good eye and ignoring the other. And my reading vision absolutely sucks! Does Lasix solve both near and far vision issues at the same time? Having two pair of glasses is a pain.

I was badly near-sighted and had LASIK 1-1/2 years ago. I am totally thrilled with the operation, and now have 20/20 vision for the first time ever in my whole life, as corrective lenses could not get me there.

LASIK re-shapes the lens of the eye, but it does nothing for Presbyopia which is the gradual hardening of the lens with age that causes a large majority of people to need reading glasses after age 45 or so. So I still need reading glasses, but I needed those anyway with my contacts before the LASIK surgery.

Anyone considering LASIK should see a doctor in big city that has done thousands of them and ask him a lot of questions beforehand, IMO.

About 5 years ago I had it done on one eye. I had one eye that was pretty good and one that wasn't so good so they did it on the bad eye. The good thing about it was I won't need reading glasses for a long time. Typically the older Lasik forced you to get reading glasses. But after 5 years I am starting to see where I will need reading glasses. But overall I have been very happy with it other than driving at night, I have a hard time with distances on oncoming cars. So I just learned I don't pass unless I see no car.

Would I do it again, in a heartbeat. Oh I guess Im broke, so I wouldn't be able to afford it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ran into the same problem as you Jim. The doctor explained that I am not a candidate for any type of laser surgery. My cornea thickness was inadequate for the amount of enhancement I needed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Suggested I wait for lens implants ( similar to the type used after cataract surg ) which are not yet FDA approved. Glad to see that you were finally able to get the vision enhancement you wanted.

I finally came back to work today. Doing OK, much better than what I was w/o correction before, but not what I was with correction before. Did that make sense? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Biggest problem I've had has been with computer monitor - kinda hard when you are a computer programmer huh? I've been doing a little reading of TBN, but no posting. It would hurt to look at the screen much more than a couple of minutes at a time. Eyes are still a little slow to adjust to "changes", but things are getting better each day. I won't be surprised if I still don't end up requiring an "enhancement" after things stabilize. All in all, OK. Not a lot of pain - at least not much more than getting dirt in my eyes with the old Gas Permeable contacts. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had PRK when lasik was just approved.

I had complications, a reoccurent corneal abrasion, ie a cut on the cornea that happened whenever it wanted to. Hurt worse than smacking your doo-dads, you cant rub your eyes with a abrasion /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif This went on for about 9 months.

I would do it again tommorow.

Thought I would post a quick follow-up to this. Everything is going pretty well. A little better than 20/20 out of the left eye. Right eye still has a little bit of astigmatism and a little far sighted, but still improving. I'm back to doing everything I was before - and then some because I'm not fighting my contacts constantly. I've been able to solder the circuit board on one of our TVs w/o any problems. I'll go back to the Dr. in May or June and we'll see how the right eye is doing then. So far I'm thrilled to death with the results. I'm looking forward to going outside this summer and working and not have to worry about the contacts. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just another quick follow-up. Eyes have stabilized now. The astigmatism has disappeared out of the right eye. I'm now seeing 20/20 out of both eyes. Has been great being out on the tractor or using the weedeater w/o having to worry about the contacts. I'm still wearing sunglasses (usually did anyway) - 2 reasons UV as well as normal safety, but would still get stuff under the contacts occasionally - well OK frequently. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I don't have any of that now. Based on my experience, if you are a candidate and you can afford it, go for it. It is so awesome to be able to wake up in the middle of the night and see the alarm clock that is 3 inches from your head or the one that is across the room. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jim - good to hear things went well. What was your old contact prescription? I've gotten to the point that it seems I can't see well near or far! Any prescription that gets me any kind of reasonable distance vision makes my arms way too short to read. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Readers over contacts just seems silly (but I've got them). I think my base prescription is in the range of -6.5 in one eye, -6.75 in the other (with an astigmatism to boot). I've been wondering how far they could correct with lasek. No way I'm going through that AND still have to wear corrective lenses (even if milder ones) for both near and far. Reading glasses alone I can live with if I have to - the pains of getting older.
