Totally agree. I can see where the industry is headed, and I don't like it one bit. I imagine we'll wind up doing what the JD people are doing....hacking our tractors so we can repair them. That is, unless laws change or the industry changes.

That day will be upon us when all this stuff goes to pot.

BF5587-D You can't use your water in the filter switch unless you open up the drain hole to a metric thread. These filters have a micron rating of 9 microns. Kioti's is 10 microns.

You should be able to use Donaldson air filters, the housing is Donaldson. I looked up the housing number on donaldsons web site and it gave me the filter numbers for both inner and outer. Wix now has a hydraulic filter for the NX series too, I’m still on factory brand filters for everything but my engine oil and I just went to wix, just for availability, No local dealer now.

I was trying to post the link into the other thread, I guess I opened the wrong window when I tried posting the link. Thanks for pointing it out, I think it’s fixed now.

Jim, did you re-thread the drain hole to metric on yours? How did that go? How did you clear the swarf? Do you see any risk of cross-threading later if the switch is removed and replaced by someone else?

Looks like the BF5587-D is only around $14. That is a significant savings from the Daedong, which is $63.00. I have two of the Daedong on the shelf in my shop, as the same filter is used on both the NX series and the CK10 SE series. (Perhaps other models, but I haven't checked). The replacement interval is 400 hrs, though, so not a frequent task or expense in my case.

Magnuson-Moss notwithstanding, I'd be hesitant to use the Baldwin fuel filter during the drive-train warranty period, especially given that it has to be drilled out/retapped to use the filter switch. Just creates another fact issue for the owner's burden of proof, in the event of a dispute. Probably a very small chance of that happening, but hey, that's when the warranty really counts. Reminds me of when I had lasik sight correction 20 years ago. Before the procedure, the ophthalmologist said: "Statistically there's only a 1% chance that something will go wrong. But for the patient it happens to, it's 100%"! :)

Who says that you need to use the water switch to be covered under warranty. The Baldwin filter also filters to the same amount of % as the Kioti. So not only does it capture the same amount but it captures particles .000395 smaller than the original filter. Not a lot but everything counts when it comes to filtering. As for the filter retapping. that was simple. I just tapped it out right side down with an air hose stuck in the top on low pressure. Once tapped the hole, I filled the filter with diesel fuel and let it pour out into a container so I could look for chips. There were no chips in it.

There is no way possible to cross thread your switch if you make good threads, unless the owner can't screw a part into a hole.

As for my abilities. At 17 I was working on cars for a living at a Chrysler dealership. Two years later I was working at an International Harvester dealership on straight jobs and semi's. Four years later I was working for a Ford dealership in their truck dept. with another guy. I have rebuilt motors, transmission, rear ends, done stick welding, mig welding, Heil-arc on aluminum cabs changing out entire body panels, roofs, cab mounts that tore apart, wiring and any other thing that needed to be done. I spent 20 years as a machinist running both manual and CNC equipment. Doing programming when needed and any tool modifications needed. Was in charge of 10 machine centers with workers. Ran a month long study on my own for insert quality and life expectancy. I ended up turning in those results to management which had them change all their tooling and inserts to a different brand which cut costs down by almost 75% on inserts alone in my work area. Worked in special machining for 5 of those 20 years. Worked at a solar panel company rebuilding the furnaces that grow solar panel wafers until they went bankrupt. Spent the last 8 years building machinery that costs upwards of $100,000.00. I do installations all over the world and training of employees as part of my job. I also do service calls to inspect and diagnose problems with equipment and give advice as to the approach needed for repairs. I dare Kioti to tell me that I am not qualified to work on my tractor.

Thanks for the info on the Baldwin filter.
Since the machine is still under warranty I'll pass for now.

The local hydraulic shop carries Donaldson, so I'll pick up air filter there.
BUT, what is this bidness bout an inner and outer air filter. Both tractors only had the filter canister element and nothing else.

Did I miss something? Hmm...
Anyways thanks for all the info and hope your machine finally gets up and running.
FWIW, don't seem to matter bout tractor color.
I read the same type of issues/hassels on the Ford Super Duty boards.
If it's a machine someone somewhere will have a heartache......life at times really just sucks.....

All the best...

My tractor also came with a Donaldson in it. Only the standard filter, no outer one.
