Jim, did you re-thread the drain hole to metric on yours? How did that go? How did you clear the swarf? Do you see any risk of cross-threading later if the switch is removed and replaced by someone else?
Looks like the BF5587-D is only around $14. That is a significant savings from the Daedong, which is $63.00. I have two of the Daedong on the shelf in my shop, as the same filter is used on both the NX series and the CK10 SE series. (Perhaps other models, but I haven't checked). The replacement interval is 400 hrs, though, so not a frequent task or expense in my case.
Magnuson-Moss notwithstanding, I'd be hesitant to use the Baldwin fuel filter during the drive-train warranty period, especially given that it has to be drilled out/retapped to use the filter switch. Just creates another fact issue for the owner's burden of proof, in the event of a dispute. Probably a very small chance of that happening, but hey, that's when the warranty really counts. Reminds me of when I had lasik sight correction 20 years ago. Before the procedure, the ophthalmologist said: "Statistically there's only a 1% chance that something will go wrong. But for the patient it happens too, it's 100%"!
