Gee do you think it would be risky to run the gas through a still
The ethanol should cook off first, talk about white lightning !

I tried the 100LL ave gas, that has other issues and unless you want to change a bunch of fuel system parts I would skip it. Another thumbs up to VP racing fuel SEF94, spendy but it sure solves a lot of problems, just wish I could afford to run it in my boat !

Back to my "non-vented cap" thought: How about stretching a balloon over the fuel fill? This would allow for expansion and contraction of the fuel, but not allow moisture to enter the system. Kinda, like making wine. .. not white lightning.

Seems like a good idea to me  ... but as seen already in my responses, I'm no expert

I don't believe there are any "experts" on the subject.

I'm thinking, a piece of bicycle inner tube, with air valve intact, to apply some pressure. Have to seal the other end ... ? Maybe a patch. Hose clamp to hold it in place on filler neck.

It would make a good experiment for the winter, with a couple of plastic bottles, half full. One with a balloon and the other with just a vent. :mur:

This is a page for Louisiana Ethanol free stations. Link at the top of the page.
PETE LANDRY's REALGAS.COM

I try to buy the good stuff when I can when I can not I use the stabil. It would be a lot better if they would quit making it!!!!

Actually one can remove the ethanol rather easily.
The same method to test for ethanol can be used- that is to deliberately ADD water to the fuel, shake, wait a few then pull off the now ethanol laden water.
It does drop the octane so need to start with premium to maybe end up with something near regular.

I kind of like that idea, especially for the engines, which are intermittent use. Of course, once again, we shouldn't have to deal with the issue. Has anybody actually done this?

Now I'm thinking, a drum, with a drum pump, which doesn't reach to the bottom, so that the fuel could be pumped from the upper portion. It would act just like a sediment bowl.

The problem is that the ethanol easily mixes with the moisture and does not settle out like water would in pure gas.

Ethanol is such a stupid political scam... :(

From:Ethanol

"David Pimental, a leading Cornell University agricultural expert, has calculated that powering the average U.S. automobile for one year on ethanol (blended with gasoline) derived from corn would require 11 acres of farmland, the same space needed to grow a year's supply of food for seven people. Adding up the energy costs of corn production and its conversion into ethanol, 131,000 BTUs are needed to make one gallon of ethanol. One gallon of ethanol has an energy value of only 77,000 BTUS. Thus, 70 percent more energy is required to produce ethanol than the energy that actually is in it. Every time you make one gallon of ethanol, there is a net energy loss of 54,000 BTUs.

Mr. Pimentel concluded that "abusing our precious croplands to grow corn for an energy-inefficient process that yields low-grade automobile fuels amounts to unsustainable subsidized food burning"
