Ethanol on the Ropes?

So your defense to using corn to make Ethanol is that the price was low before we started doing so? Maybe in a farmer's eyes that makes sense but in the eyes of people that can't pay for the higher cost of food, people that raise cattle, people who own cars that get 10% less fuel economy with Ethanol, the list goes on and on. And how is it better to jack the price up on corn by forcing people to burn it in their cars better than paying farmers to produce corn so we can help feed starving people around the world? Wow.

Nobody is going hungry because of ethanol.

Most if any price increase of food is the result of the high price of energy.

Last I knew, farmers raised cattle.
We went from a commodity that no one seemed to have interest in, to starving the poor. Have you had a bowl of corn lately? Not exactly what you want to eat.
As far as fuel economy, my Ford Escort does not change on mileage from one to the other. Some cars will, but others do not.
The price of corn came up only .20 (cents) when the most came on line to get farmers bringing in the corn. For some mystery it all of a sudden became wall street. BTW, guess what part comes out in DDG that only a cows stomach can actually digest??????

Another one of the big lies about ethanol, was that it was needed to combat global warming.
The real truth is that ethanol creates a lot more pollution(and carcinogens)(and greenhouse gases), than oil does.

I never brag about the "green" factor, but ethanol plants are required to destroy co emissions as they produce. They are under tight control from ATF.

Ethanol would be very efficient process if several small operations were going in scattered locations, and the user was using straight alcohol at a 180 proof or less. Getting the alcohol moisture free to add gas takes lots of energy.

Last I knew gas does not come out of the ground in seperate containers for your car or semi either.

I think you misunderstood, I'm talking about what comes out of the tailpipe of your vehicle.

Every ethanol plant proposal here in Va. got dumped because of the amount of water it takes to operate or no corn would be bought from Va. farmers. It would all be shipped in. Some would even come from other countries. In several places the water was already being pumped from central Va. to the east coast. I guess in a way those 10 out of 12 years of drought may have changed the minds of many that thought they wanted ethanol plants in their area. Even the farmers turned against it because their corn wouldn't be used. One was about to go up in Chase City Va. and use Barley. That fell through for the same reason. If they won't buy our grain then we won't allow the plants to be built. There is one soydiesel plant on the eastern shore but they buy beans from locals. That's worked out pretty good.

In this case I do not blame the farmers at all. Ethanol plants around here have farmer participation.

As far as more co after emissions.... sounds like the camp against it..

We can agree to disagree.
