Another author fantasizing about something which he has no experience. Uses Canadian regulatory red tape limiting gasoline station construction and operation creating a shortage then extrapolates that to the EV world. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REGULATORY RED TAPE, THIS 500 MILE 401 HIGHWAY CORRIDOR IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST IN THE WORLD. IT'S GAS STATIONS AND EXITS ARE HUGE AND HANDLE THE TRAFFIC, BUT AS ARTICLE STATES IF EVS WERE TO USE AT THE MUCH LONGER "FILL TIME" THEY NEED, IT WOULD REQUIRE IMMENSE CHARGING CAPABILITIES IN KW ( EQUIVALENT OF SMALL TOWN) THE AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE EVEN REDUCES THE EVs by 40 % TO ACCOUNT FOR HOME CHSRGING ETC .....AUTHOR'S POINT WAS THAT INFRASTRUCTURE LIKE THAT NEEDS MANY YEARS TO PUT IN PLACE AND MEANWHILE MANDATES HERE LESS THAN DECADE AWAY. ....BUT NO WORRY GRUMPY SAYS WE DON'T NEED MORE CHARGING FUEL STATIONS

The big fallacy in his fantasy is that he imagines all ICE vehicles will be EV overnight. All the while travel corridor EV charging facilities don't change at all.
CALIFORNIA SIMILAR PROBLEM TO CANADA, BUT NO WORRY GRUMPY SAY NO FUEL STATIONS NEEDED JUST CHARGE AT HOME. AND DON'T TRAVEL.
Recently got a Buc-ees, 15 miles from me. 128 fuel dispensers, ULSD, E10, and E0. Local government officials were delighted. Also has a Mercedes Benz Charging Hub using ChargePoint Express + 400kW hardware, 10 charging bays. No doubt those dastardly Capitalists will add more EV charging if the demand increases.

Somehow thinks that just because an ICE driver may start a trip with less than a full tank, that an EV driver might also neglect to start with a proper charge. We start every morning, trip or not, with a proper charge. THAT WAS COVERED IN ARTICLE, GAS PRICES ON CORRIDORS LIKE THIS ARE QUITE A BIT MORE, MOST DRIVERS DO FILLUP AT HOME TOWNS AT CHEAPER RATES, BUT LONG DISTANCES AND WORRY ABOUT TRAFFIC JAMS ETC, YOU GAS UP WHEN WIFE USING BATHROOM ETC

In his ignorance he demonstrates no knowledge of how EV drivers charge on long trips. Believes we somehow charge from 20% to 80% every time. ACTUALLY THE ARTICLE COVERS THAT, BUT YOUR THE ONE THAT STATES 20 TO 80% TO BE QUICKER STOP FOR YOU WHEN YOU HAVE TO USE SUPERCHARGERS..SO TO GO 100% ON ROAD WOULD TIE MORE CHARGER TIME LINEUPS DURING BUSY WEEKENDS AND REQUIRE BIGGER KW CAPABILITY FOR INTERSTATE (6 LANE OR MORE HIGHWAYS) MULTI SUPERCHARGERS LOCATIONS NEEDED LIKE THIS CANADIAN EXAMPLE. BUT I DO REMEMBER HOW THIS DEBATE ALL STARTED WITH GRUMPY CROWING ABOUT GAS STATION MODEL NOT NEEDED, BUT THEN TALKS HIMSELF ABOUT HIS LATEST BUCCEES GAS STATION THAT HAS A CHARGING HUB.....BUT YOU SAY THE WORLD DOESN'T NEED THE GAS STATION MODEL YOU USED AS AN EXAMPLE......HMMM STAY ON POINT FELLA. ;)

Battery car engineers need to perfect the inductive charge coil for EV’s, just like an IPhone, and make it affordable. Park over it. Done. No F-ing around with daily plugging/unplugging
You need to learn a bit of physics and electrical engineering motor theory. We don't mind wasting half or more of the energy when charging an iPhone. Might realize you still are F-ing around having to put the iPhone on a pad or charging stand to charge inductively. Clearly nothing is good enough until the iPhone charges any time it is inside the house! Charge via WiFi!

So now you have an inductive charging pad for an EV? Big heavy expensive thing. What do you do if you want to park somewhere else? You complained about the cost of having to install a simple L2 EVSE.

Several companies have tried inductive charging for EVs and fell flat on their faces. Others keep trying to make roads which inductively charge as one drives. Only works when government doesn't mind spending millions of dollars per mile. And ignores the energy losses.

Takes 15 seconds after the driver's door is open to reach the umbilical, plug in, and return to the driver's door. I'm terribly inconvenienced by a 99.997% efficient wire and plug!

I think you missed my point, they lived here month or years while working. We did flat rate billing, power included. Could not do that with the added cost of EV charging, they would all drive in excess of 150 miles per day to get food. Nothing around here.
Moot point I saw the writing on the wall and chose not to continue playing. Closed shop, kicked everyone out and now I feed cattle and deer where the people used to be.
Much nicer for me.
You missed the point that ChargePoint (and others) offer solutions which accept credit cards (and "charge network" membership cards) and bill by the kWh. So, you would get a cut in exchange for providing a parking space smaller than full RV campsite.

Honestly, it takes me several minutes to put 30 gallons of fuel in the 36 gallon tank on my pickup. I've never owned an EV, but I'd bet plugging in that cord takes less than one-tenth of that time. Plus, it's at your house! Wait until there's a break in the rain, if it's really that big a problem for you!
Was 15 seconds for me before neuropathy kicked in. Now is closer to 30 seconds. Same time to connect as disconnect.

ANOTHER HAPPY TESLA OWNER !

A $140,000 (US dollars?) Tesla would be one of the early models. This article is at least 2 years old.

Having owned and driven a 2013 Model S for 10 years the above owner is an idiot. Car gave lengthy advance warning when the 12V battery was going bad. The author of the hit piece didn't do any research when the ignorant owner's claims were too juicy not to print.

On the original Model S it is trivial (no tools but a credit card or two to pry helps) to pop the front plastic in the bumper where two jumper terminals (imagine that!) are located. Put 12V there for a few moments and the door locks work once again. Is all in the owner's manual, which in this day and age reading more than 2 pages is too much work to expect of anyone. Or even knowing the owner's manual is online (searchable, even!) in the car, in the app, and the webpage.

Next we'll hear about rich women driving into a lakes and drowning while on the telephone because they don't know where the mechanical door latch is located. But no, that can't be the fault, it is the battery!

I agree, but how does that translate into their decision to build and market EV versus ICE?
Traditional automakers kiss up to government far more than the easy EV money that was given to them. Big big business is no longer Free Market but State Capitalism. Can't build or extend a factory without new concessions from government.

So when Big Brother says, "Build EVs!" they said, "Yes, comrade!" And predictably, managed vendors to create necessary components (rather than invent anything themselves), and built something that checked all the EV boxes but didn't work very well.
