What poorly informed consumers don’t seem to understand is that the point of a long range battery is to be able to add 100 miles of charge faster than for a smaller battery.
I'm not a consumer, in that I haven't shopped for EV's yet myself, so I guess I can't be a poorly informed one. But this was new information for me, that you can actually add miles faster to a high capacity battery than to a standard battery. That's good information, if the difference is really substantial.

Have said it before but is often missed when other points were focused on.

This site has spent a lot of effort to accurately model different Teslas. Not updated for the latest but you can compare a Model 3 to Model 3 Long Range. Plot a 500 mile trip, toggle between models. Compare the total trip time and times spent charging.

Recently my sister did 6500 mile loop of the USA in a 405 mile range Tesla Model S. She rarely drove more then 200 miles between charges, mostly stopped for her own rest. Many 600 mile days.

This is one thing Elon Musk has been saying for years so it sounds like it will happen and be positive for everyone except California Governor.

Well we've had my wifes Equinox EV for about a month now. It has been a bit of a learning experience. EV's are definitely not a cold weather vehicle. After a 90 mile run starting at about 4F and ending at 10F with a round trip average of 1.7 to 1.9 miles per kwh I can see that if anything close to 100 trip is planned in the winter that will be the maximum in that car. It did use quite a bit of energy for heating, even though we "pre" heated the car while it was plugged in so used house power for that. It was a clear cold day so no snow or slush or storms to plow through. While it may be a decent short trip vehicle it certainly is not for long travels in the winter. From what I have seen planning anything over 100 miles does not leave much of a margin for mishaps. Even though it's fuel cost even then was under $0.12 per mile. The pickups $0.21 fuel cost per mile will be worth it as it will also be a warmer ride then the electric with the heat reduced enough that my wife was complaining a bit (she does like a lot more heater output then I do). I most certainly could not recommend an electric vehicle for winter use if over 100 miles is needed for commuting or any travels.

We do a lot of 250 mile drives in winter... That would stink
