I’ve wondered for awhile now, if semi trucks aren’t the more ideal proving ground for BEV technology, than passenger cars. They generally operate on predictable schedules, and can be configured accordingly. There are forced driver rest periods, even for the long-haul guys, where charging could be facilitated. The BEV’s have massive torque, with less impressive horsepower, just what a semi tractor requires. They’re not nearly as sensitive to battery weight, etc.
The Tesla trucks are very interesting. Leno’s Garage did a cool little video on them, a year or three back. They were configured specifically for Tesla parts delivery, which I think were mostly more local routes, but that didn’t appear to be a major limitation.
I’m also constantly interested in what Edison Motors is doing, with their hybrid EV trucks, basically diesel locomotives on rubber tires.
