As much concerned with INCOME as it appears... did you enjoy the ride ?

I can come up with a income figure and yes if I had saved more I would have more in the bank but my life has been full, enjoyed all of it, bought ALL of the toy I wanted, have two houses
and have a great wife that let me do as I wanted.

I couldn't have asked for more, thank you God for all that you have given me...

Sorry getting a little carried away but remember it is the jouney that counts.

I've got $125K in a plan. I draw $10K a year from it. It still grows every year. Only thing wrong with it is I should have tripled my investment..... :)

BINGO!!!! I recall back in the early 80's when my 457K was paying 14-15%...and I was only investing $75 a month. STOP LAUGHING.....

Yep. And to those today investing in their retirement or contemplating it, I say, if you haven't started you have already missed the greatest return on your investment, time. And if you don't increase your investment with every income raise you get, you again are missing out. At even a modest return of 5%, $5 invested today would be worth how much in 30 years??

I have a spreadsheet with a tab for every month going back about 6.5 years. I have projections for income and for spending for each item (i.e. Approx how much we'll spend on average on gas/electric, groceries, dining out, clothing, cable/internet, etc. every month). It is a record of every dime we've taken in and every dime we've spent in that time and it's extremely useful when it comes to making long-term financial goals. We bought this house four months ago, and the spreadsheet helped me to understand how much I'd be able to save every month for the downpayment and "transitional costs," how easily we could afford the higher monthly costs associated with this place, and what our new savings rate would be going forward. Knowing how it was going to look took a lot of stress out of the decision.

Your a smart man Park. That should be a requirement taught in high school I'm my opinion.

There are those on TBN that dig up information with charts and graphs. I'm sure some will be posted on this thread. Interesting topic. And most of us are clueless as to where our tax money actually goes. Large farmer friend of mine says he spends 40% of every dollar earned on taxes. When someone digs up the facts, you'll be surprised how small a percentage of our tax money goes toward fightings wars and supporting our military. A MUCH larger percent goes to supporting those with their hands out, "child factories", "Oh I hurt my back", "it's cheaper to draw welfare than get a job", etc., etc. So if we're gonna fix the tax spending issue everyone will pay a price. Are we individually ready to pay that price?? Tough questions. Tough answers.

As to my earnings. I obviously earned more than I needed. If not I would currently be penniless. :)
Does he get his deficit check before or after taxes .

And what does that have to do with the thread?
Let's get it moved to politics!!!

On the thread subject -
You can go to Social Security online and find all your earnings that were REPORTED and dump them into a spreadsheet. And yes I earned over a million. And about half that in the last 10 years.
Excuse me your correctiouns .

This retirement talk has got me thinking but I don't want to high jack this thread so I started another related to retirement planning.

I'm not sure how to post a link to it from my phone but it is in the rural living section.
