Ever lose something mysteriously in the woods?

Yea I'm on there too I went with the two saw plan I have a Dollar 7900 and a PS-421

How do you like the 421? I'm really considering one for my dad. He can't start a saw anymore after a shoulder injury. I'm thinking about a spring assisted starting saw. So far I'm looking at a Stihl 211, Echo cs-400, Dolmar 421 and maybe a Jonsered, but I forget the model number.

The Echo dealer is 15 minutes away, Stihl right in town, but it's an Ace hardware, and they don't really know their stuff. Dolmar dealer is 45 minutes away. The Dolmar seems like the best saw for the money, just a little worried about the drive if I need something. Echo has a really long warranty period too, which is nice.

My Shihl MS250 is a spring assisted start. I like it. One pull when warmed up, two to three pulls when cold on choke. It starts, immediately dies, turn off choke, and one pull again and I'm off to the races. The choke is needed to start and run at about 30ish or colder until warm. Anyway, I'm very please with my Shihl.

I learned to tie the important stuff to my wife. She NEVER gets lost even if I tried.

It cuts like a saw 10cc bigger complete beast but you have to keep the 3/8LP chain on it to maintain that performance and it can be hard to get locally sometimes.

Thanks for the info. The 251 is on my list too. My hangup with Stihl is that it's not a pro-grade saw. It is a little lighter, but apparently makes 2.3 HP vs 2.9 for the Dolmar, for the same price. Also, my local Stihl dealer is Ace Hardware and they just don't get it. They don't know what saws are strato-charged, they can't figure out if you can run different chain pitches on any given model, and worst of all, they'll just plain guess at an answer when they don't know.

I currently own two Stihl saws (036 and Ms 460), and I'd love to add another Stihl to the stable, but they're both pro saws. The 241 (comparable sized pro saw) msrps at $549 and doesn't have the spring start feature. Almost double what a 421 goes for. I'm very hesitant to spend $300 on a less-than-pro-grade Stihl when I can get a more powerful pro-grade Dolmar for the same price from a real dealer.

Dolmar is a great commercial saw and I wouldn't let the drive bother you. It won't ever break. Stihl is maybe just a whisker below Dolmar and I wouldn't let that bother you. Echo a little below that but well made and well regarded. I have a Dolmar and Stihl and each has always been 100% reliable. Never heard of an Echo saw problem although my Echo weedwacker carb seems lightweight.

Also, Eric, I'm sorry to hijack your thread. Hopefully it's alright seeing as you found your saw.:)

I don't have to be in the woods to loose things especially bolts and screws that I drop on a concrete floor and sometimes never find again. I cant say as I ever lost something as big as a chain saw. My brother in law lost a 25' tow chain working in his yard and never found it.

Now we're all trying to find the right saw.

Anyway, I've cut up and piled up about 80 hours of burn piles getting fed with my tractor with my MS250 on the new parcel alone, and the MS250 is still going strong. I've had the saw for 7 years and it has never sat around long enough for me to bother thinking about storing it. I've changed out the spark plug and air filter.

I run non-oxigenated premium (no ethanol) and use Stihl's synthetic oil

I've lost my saw a few times, always found it. Wish I could say the same for those screnches and a couple of logging chains.
