The 251 would be a better choice because it has pulse.

I'm glad you mentioned China junk!. it's great that your welders are not made in China, so many manufacturers have their products made there, and they just don't have anywhere near the same quality as made in USA or many West European Countries..

Anyone who has been aware of our product, especially the last 10 years, know we produce in China, out of parts made all over the world, with top notch companies, many of which are based right here in the US. But we never try to hide it. People don't want to believe it, or simply want to bash China, but the reality is that we put a lot of people into business right here in the US, a lot earlier that those guys who are having to save their pennies while putting off their rent check to afford it. We've helped countless people get started in their business. Now, I don't want to insult anyone in that struggling condition who want to buy US made but, if you believe that buying a name brand that was traditionally made in USA is still made in the USA, but please don't remain ignorant of the facts where things are made, and how much you are overpaying just for a name. To borrow and paraphrase from the X files...the truth is out there. You just have to open your eyes to see it, or take your fingers out of your ears and stop saying "nanananananana" when you hear things you don't want to hear. We are not made in the USA, but that's where we based.

it's good to hear you enforce quality, because many companies do not.. one sign of bad quality is the screws, if you try to remove a screw, and it strips or breaks off, you know a unit is junk!..

Better choice for what?

I'm trying to decide between the 211si and 251 with pulse. I'll be doing primarily mig (I have a Lincoln 120v mig welder) but want to learn stick and tig. From what I have read the mig pulse enables spray arc transfer and that allows welding thicker material than short circuit. Is there another advantage? I figure I can use stick (after some practice) or multiple passes for thicker material. The drawback to the 251 besides price is that it's big. As a hobbyist I don't need run 12" spools and space is tight in my current garage/shop.

Pulse does not enable Pulse Spray. It's a modified form of Pulse Spray. A unit has to be capable of Spray before it could be useful for adding a pulsed spray to it.

If pulsed spray is your goal, then the Power i-MIG 253DPi is the best choice, if TIG isn't an real concern. It does offer stick.

Clear your cache. The retail price is crossed out and the sale price is listed.

My wife doesn't.

Mine really doesn't either, but she already knows I'm buying a new welder regardless, so "on sale" will have less bite for her.

Yeah just use her logic... "Honey, look how much money I saved!"
