Maytag and Milwaukee turned to junk because of that!.. both were made in the USA at one time, and used to have excellent service lives!..

Note: All companies that made products with "excellent service lives" have done one of two things.

Some went out of business because they built themselves out of business. They created the best product they could and sold it at what any honest person would feel was a "fair" price. They had no repeat customers and eventually went under or were bought by someone that had a little fatter bankroll.

The rest realized the issues they were creating for themselves by overbuilding their products, and reduced the quality of those products and started engineering obsolescence and fail-points into their products.

This was all long before our industries started using Chinese factories to produce products. It is also why most names that are typically known for being the best quality are also typically considered to be overpriced (think JD and Kuboota).

after 242 years of making quality products that last a long time and making a good profit, there was no reason to change.. there's no defined new excessive cost that would justify that!.

The problem is that Most of the welding equipment we in the USA know of IS made in China or assembled here from chinese parts. No-one in America makes welding equipment. Sad but true.

A lot has to just do with customers. All things being equal, we are cheapskates. If there are 2 equivilsnt products, we will go for the cheaper one. Even if things arent equal quality wise, the cheaper ones have an advantage in most cases. That forces manufacturers to fight harder on price than quality. "Cheap Chinese" is really just cheap that would be cheap junk no matter where it was made. It was just cheaper to manufacture in China than the USA.

The Chinese can make & launch spacecraft with all the quality & precision that requires. They make cheap junk because that is what the market demands.

I know of none of our manufacturers of machines that have been in operation for 242 years. Some names may still exist, but in name only. A lot of those names went under long before the "global marketplace" started being a thing...

What is really sad is that nearly anything of any complexity has parts and components sourced from around the globe and there is hardly anything that can be 100% from a single country.

I agree, but I would have to say it has as much to do with workers. In the USA, a person values their time higher than elsewhere in the world. That is why labor is cheaper elsewhere and manufacturing follows cheap labor. US workers value their time; so going back to what you said, they also value their dollars they get in lieu of that time and therefore want to spend the least amount on a quality product as is possible (a.k.a. cheapskates).

When engineers engineer all the manufacturing talent out of the assembly lines, paying someone $20 an hour or more to do what any McDonald's employee can do is silly (keep in mind McDonald's employees are now being replaced by touchscreens).

Engineering products here where the engineering talent exists, and having those products built other places where laborers are plentiful and inexpensive is a good business model for the customers. Especially when there is good quality customer service available here as well. Good price, good service, what more can one want?

Exactly. The playing field is level. There are many tiers to the Chinese market. Their Auto Darkening lenses for instance are second to none. The Chinese Miller and ESAB welders seem to be doing ok too.

I have been doing a lot of research, reading and watching YouTube videos on all the different Multiprocess welders. I keep finding that the Everlast welders coming right up there on quality and value! The only negative I have found is the owners manual and no welding metal thickness setting guide, and maybe this has been already addressed? I think they have the best warranty that I have found? I'm mostly looking at the 211si. From what I see it's a strong MIG welder. I haven't seen a lot on the tig capabilities though. Anyone have any experience with one? I would mostly use the MIG welder, but I need a Tig for working on vintage dirt bikes welding on the chrome moly steel frames and rebuilding the lite steel exhaust pipes and mufflers. I also have some farm equipment that I would use the stick welder function on. I would also get the spool gun for aluminum, but I haven't seen much on that either.

I would just like to hear from someone who has actually owned and used the 211si! Would it work well for vintage motorcycle chromemoly frames? Thin steel exhaust rebuilds? General welding?
Thanks,
Ash

253DPI on sale on their website for $2300.00 is a swingin deal. Unfortunatly the YouTube vids on this machine totally miss the beauty of twin pulse or double pulse on this type of equipment. What I mean is, Running double pulse at 1 to 1.5 pulses per second. That's where you get the Tig looking welds at Mig speeds. Another thing I'd like to know about the 253 is if you can adjust pulse width or control heat and time on the high side. I'd love to play with this welder. It's the best deal out in welders right now by far. If I didn't already have something similar in a different brand I'd buy one of these and save $4000.00.

On the Double pulse you can. Single pulse you can, to a point, but you have to go into the background setting for it, and that's a bit sketchy to mess with the factory programming.
