eubie5 : Not necessarily . Several of those before and after pictures are exactly like what my driveway would look like before and after , running my homebuilt land plane , several passes up and down it . We use a blue , crushed 3/4" shale , from a pit just down the road . Driveway is 800+ feet long . First 50 - 60 % is flat , with just a couple of feet elevation change . Last 40+ % starts out mild then increases to a 14% grade at top . My home built is 7' wide , by app. 8'+ long .
Really the only issue We have with Our drive , is every 4 to 6 years , We have usually 2 loads brought in to " Cap " the driveway , more to keep the dust down than anything . This past summer , Driver did good . But 5 years ago , the contract driver had No set chains on his tail gate , Thus when he was spreading and hit the steepest part of the grade , Poof . Instead of a maybe 2" cap , I had 6" to 8" thick blob for 75 to 100' . Been working the last 4 years dragging that excess either down the hill or up depending on were I wanted it . To move rock , I drop my front blade down 1" below the bottom of the side skids . To just " Touch up " the driveway , I have both the front and back blades set right at skid level . When in touch up mode , Our driveway will start out like the pictures with the grass growing down the middle . After 2 passes up and down , it will look like the after pictures .
