The LB I just bought has a horizontal muffler, extending forwards, with a short pipe that just lets the fumes drift back my way, ready for inhalation.

This pic shows the set-up (1.25" pipe):

In considering how to mitigate the problem, I thought of rotating the muffler 90 degrees to the vertical, and adding a longer pipe with a raincap. It places the muffler a bit close to the operator though. Better, I could leave the muffler horizontal, but substitute an approx 3', vertical pipe & cap with a right angle close to the muffler.

Any ideas? Off-the shelf parts (from another model?) would be nice. Reference to a dealership that has a large parts inventory might be another approach.

Thanks, C

We turn the muffler up & take off the little tip and replace it with an extension exhaust pipe that goes on the LK3054.

the only bad side affect of this is every 3054 with a vertical muffler and pipe is bent or grabs limbs when in the woods.... it's an easy target to get something caught on. just something to think about

Yes, I thought about that - I live in the desert- no trees. :)

Your looks just like mine. Other than the fact that it blackens up the paint exhausting as it does, it is not really that bad. Out in the open the fumes from the exhaust wander away really fast and do not seem a bother during use.

cgraham,

I don't have any answers for you question but I did what to say it's a good looking machine you got yourself there.

Well I guess I will add that I have a Ford 1310 w/ vertical exhaust and I seem to suck lots of smoke and fumes.:p

I followed Mrs. Tractor's advice and ordered through her from wallacetractorandequipment.com part# E5500-12412 (18.00). It exhausts just above the canopy. It's a great improvement - I only get occasional whiffs of exhaust now.

The opening is turned to the side, and the flapper valve I bought did not fit on readily - so I left it off.

Thanks, Mrs. Tractor! I think Wallace is her "lesser half" who often answers questions, including mine - Thanks Wallace.
