You might be surprised. Normally the manufactures like for you to use their favorite dealers. Don't discuss price just ask for best high volume dealers. As for cost you might be surprised again as the extreme duty line is very pricey. Still I would try 3 different dealers.

I called Woods. Amusingly, they suggested I call the guys who gave me the most expensive quotes. Then I called two other dealers, one dealer got back to me wanting even more money for the BB6000X, at $4700 and since he has the BB720X in stock, $3200. Basically, 20% and 30% off of list. I pointed out to him that all he needs to do is offer a competitive quote and he gets a sale, but no. Sticking to those numbers. I'm waiting for the third dealer to come back with numbers but so far Woods dealers have priced themselves out of my market.

I really don't understand how some of these guys run their business or price their stuff. A few years ago I was looking for a trailer so I emailed about 6 dealers within a 90 mile radius and ask them for their best price on the EXACT same trailer. The email said I want your bid on a year, make, model trailer for a cash (no credit card fees/financing required) sale. I will pick the trailer up within 30 days and will send you 1/2 of the purchase price by check upon acceptance of your bid. The bids ranged from $2200 up to almost $4000 for the EXACT same trailer, same manufacturer and same specs. I went with one of the lower ones but not the very lowest because the distance became a factor.

This was a slam dunk, easy sale they spent almost no time on since I did all the research myself. I have since been back to my dealer of choice for a few other things so he made a little money each time just for being reasonable with his profit margin.

I would go to woods website, print dealers off at distance I was willing to drive and start calling.

Woods web site is problematic in the sense that the dealer locator asks for a zip code and only spits out dealers within 50 miles. The user must effectively carpet bomb zip codes to find all the dealers within an hour's with of driving.

The other thing to consider is the stuff your cutting. Hitting 4" stuff is going to be hard on equipment. What kind of tractor do you have? Maybe better to rent a piece of specialized equipment for first cutting. Then buy a medium hog which is alot less expensive.

My best prices have come in at $2400 for a BB720X and $4200 for a BB6000X.

Good question, what size/horse power tractor do you have?It would make a big difference in the size brush hog you choose.

Renting would kill me. In addition to nearly a mile of road to build, I have 30 acres to selectively clear. Thus among other things, the tractor will be needed to run a rotary cutter as well as a root/rock grapple to clear the land. The tractor will be a 60hp HST Cab on. The tractor alone weights 4600 pounds, add 1000 pounds for a loader, and an additional 1550 pounds of rim guard in 4 tires and the tractor is at 7100 pounds, basically a light utility weight but plenty to manhandle the rotary cutter.

I've been told that a HST with just under 50 PTO will be able to run either the BB6000X or the BB720X. However, my plan is to consult with the manufacturer's rep after the engineering inspection comes back with species types to see if a less expensive rotary cutter will do the job.

So you don,t have a tractor yet correct? If that,s the case how do you know your tractor weight?Just curious?IMHO your putting the cart in front of the horse at this point.

I know tractor weights because the OEM's publish weights and I know what size tires they have and used the fill tables on Rim Guard's web site to determine ballast weights. Loader with bucket weight is an educated guess.
