Larry,
The manufacturer of my furnace specifically states in the manual that the unit should not be installed inside any structure. Presently my unit sits about 30 feet away from the house, next to the woodshed, but could be located much closer. This would cut down on some of the expense associated with the amount of pipe and insulation you'd need to purchase. At the time I bought my furnace, the dealer said to figure $6/linear foot for pipe/insulation.
