Explosions in the woods

A friend says he keeps hearing explosions near his house in the woods. He's convinced people are cooking meth there and their labs are blowing up. He even thinks they're intentionally causing the explosions. My knowledge of this kind of thing is very limited. Do people cook meth the woods and is an explosion part of the process?

Houses explode occasionally because of accidents during the process. Better living through chemistry, right?

Recently here there was quite an explosion. Turns out some idiots were having a gender reveal party (idiots definitely for blowing stuff up in a dry forest - we haven't had nearly enough water this winter - among other reasons).

It wouldn't've surprised me for it to be a drug-related explosion, though those are definitely not common.

My guess is, your friend is hearing someone shooting guns or playing with fireworks.

My first thought was fireworks too. My house shook several times recently from some kind of explosion and I never thought it was caused by anything else.

Explosions during drug making are expensive losses to the maker. They are not part of the process, but a result of an error. The last thing drug makers want is to draw attention to their operation.
I agree with @ning assessment, guns, fireworks, or it's possible that someone is trying to blow tree stumps out of the ground.

This Is the first I've heard of Tannerite. If it'll shake a house from down the street, that might have been what shook mine.

I would agree with the Tannerite theory. We had someone in the neighborhood using it and it shook my house from 2000 ft. away.

My vote is for tannerite. We have had people driving up and down the road looking for the cause of the explosion after my son sets off a pound or two.

As for the meth lab scenario I doubt it. Its coming across the border so cheap there is no incentive to make it. I cant remember the last meth lab bust in our area.

Shooting off fireworks has always seemed like burning up money to me.

We had a guy north of here that finally got caught for setting off tannerite .
He was doing it on other peoples property in remote areas.

Plus, one explosion is enough to put a lab out of business, but you can always buy more Tannerite.

Weird, we have been hearing stuff also but there is a quarry not to far away.

Our house is built on a slab. There is a quarry 5ish air miles away. We hear, well FEEL, explosions a couple of times a week. Usually, Tuesday and Wednesday around 11:00ish. The only thing we can figure is we can hear/feel explosions at the quarry. We heard/felt an explosion today which is unusual.

To the OP, the noise is guns or fireworks. Could be Tannerite but that stuff is loud. Or at least the Tannerite explosions we have hear were LOUD. There were some a series of explosions a few years ago that were heard over a very large area of the county. Most likely it was Tannerite. We heard the explosions in the house and best we can tell the explosion was almost 10 miles away.
