tie one end to something that won't move. Put a bar through the other end to use a a handle and pull like a bugger.

Yup, turn it a bit too as you try to pull it out, onc it starts to move it should move fairley easy.
Be real careful with air, not only can you do some damage to yourself it can also knock the end of the cylinder off when it bottoms out on the cap....Mike

hi and thank everyone for helping me with my grapple project. i spent 2 days on my project. i need to run the hydraulic lines and clean up the welds and then make it orange. guess what kind of tractor i have...... the help with the hydrualic cylinder was in valuable to the grapple project.

Be very careful as you begin using this. It will start to bend and youll be able to see where to strategically place bracing to tufen it up. Where possible use brace elements in tension.
,,,Youre going to need some large compressive and torsional elements tho. Welding more metal to form box sections where needed is an option with the strap metal frame you have.

thank you for the bracing advise. i almost always over due it when it comes to support. if a little is good a lot must be better. i have studied my design and do have some ideas about additional bracing at the heavier pull / push points. thanks for the advise i will take it to heart. mark
