What are your thoughts? On the 422 the oil cooler is right over the hot engine and exaust. I bought a 10" electric fan, my first thought was to mount it on the back of the hood to pull out. [exaust blows out to the right] Then I thought I should mount it on the left side and blow air onto the engine, but that is the side that gets most of the grass from the mower I don't know if this would create a problem. Should I put in a partial heat shield to block some of the hot exaust from the oil cooler, after I install the new fan? Should this fan run all of the time? I think summer yes, winter no? The fan will push or pull.

Is there a problem with overheating? or a perceived problem?

When I mow the oil tank gets very hot, you can't touch it more than 2 or 3 seconds, that is with the fan on. That is why I was thinking of puting on the extra fan to help get the heat out of the engine compartmment so the oil cooler can do a better job.
