The only tire options for the BX are the standard turfs and the R1 bars. No bar turfs or R4 tires are currently available unless it is a very new option. Kubota really needs to offer some R4's for the BX. Also, while apparenty in some markets the BX can be had as a 2WD only in north america all BX are 4WD.

Just get the turf tires. Optional selection only good for muddy or sand conditions

After using turfs on my BX 2200 for 18 months, in Oct. 2001 I bought a set of bar-turf tires/wheels, for approx. $300.00.
I use my bx grading gravel driveways, spreading material etc. and the turf tires did not give me the traction required.
I still use the turfs when mowing, aerating and working on grass.
When needed, I just swap the tire/wheel from turf to bar-turf etc. in approx. 15-20 minutes.
Just as with any implement, using the right tire for the job makes for more production and therefore less aggrivation.

Did the bar tires make a substantial difference. Iv'e read peoples comments that the bars do well for mowing, but I haven't seen any comments on whether bars were better in dirt or snow.

Jim:
I think what is confusing some may be the tire lingo. Kubota calls them bar-turf, but they are really a small verson of a R-1 Ag tire.
I used the Bx-2200 with them today, leveling a spot in the woods with the york rake, for my trailer.
As with the R-1 tire, using them on wet/soft grass areas will dig it up, especially when turning.
It is a aggressive tire and works well in soft materials.

My turf tires tended to slide & spin, more so when dragging the box scraper or york rake. For mowing, the turf tires are the best choice.

Again, in responding to the initial post, I reccomend buying both sets of tires, if you are going to frequently work the tractor, dragging ground engaging stuff in soft/loose materials. I wish I had, after employing the trial & error method of learning.

Happy Tractoring:

I do not think nor have I seen anywhere but here the R1 ag bar tires on the BX being refered to as Bar turf, you may call them that but Kubota does not. There is a bar turf but it nor the R4 industrial is avaialble unfortunately for the BX at this time. There may be other suppliers who could provide barturfs or mini R4 type tires. Maybe with the BX22 on the scene now Kubota will spec a set of R4's.

Here is a not very good pic of a Kubota B1700 with bar turfs on the rear. The B1700 and B2100 were dropped as was the 2400 in 2000. The B1700 had the same D905 engine as the BX2200 rated at 17 horsepower at 2600 RPM. Interestingly the B1700 and the B2100 and the B2400 all had Position Control. The pictured B1700 was 2WD though it was avaialble in 4WD and also gear and hydro and all 3 models(4WD) were available with Bispeed turning. Now only the 2410HSDB has the Bispeed feature. Realy cool. Tres,
Look at the last page on the BX1800/2200 brochure. They call the tires TURF and BAR TURF when listing hieghts and widths. The don't list R1's.

That is interesting, I have a new brochure and the one that came with my BX, nothing there on mine about bar turfs, maybe I should go find my glasses. Nonetheless they are not bar turfs, they are bar R1's. Bar turfs have a rounded shoulder, and generally, but not always, a double cheveron, depending upon width it could be more or even less. The spacing between bars is less also so as to provide more surface support. They would seem to be a nice tire. I think the ones on the little JD (with wife smiling) are in fact bar turfs. The BX bar tires are not terrible on turf but thinking they were intended for turf is a mistake, they will tear the ground and leave marks unless you stay off when wet/soft/muddy or get aggresive in turning in 4WD or sometimes even 2WD.
Not a big deal but asking for bar turfs on your new BX, no telling what you might get, kinda like asking what attachments are avaialble for it and my friendly dealer giving me the "look" and then gentlly explaining that tractors use implements. They look like attachments to me /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif .
