I currently own a 2WD YM2000. Have been thinking about a 4WD model. I have had very good luck with my 2000 and parts have never been an issue since it such a popular model. Have located a very nice F-220. What is the reputation of this model and how about parts availability. Anyone have any experience?????

Never heard of a F220, but if you mean F22D I hear they have weak and un-available ring and pinion gears, both front and rear.

This is a pic of an F220, but I don't know anything about it.
No not a 22D. It is a F220. Local dealer (small time) has two and they look pretty nice. Always hesitant about reliablilty and parts support.

Wouldn't a F220 be a 2wd tractor? Apparently they didn't use the "D" designation for 4wd. appears to be a '90's vintage gray market. I would be very leery of parts support as it appears to be almost non-exixtent.

Ring & pinions are available now.
I have replaced a few in my days, they mostly break on the FX s when an operator shifts without the clutch from forward to reverse while the tractor is still moving fast.
Or they jam the diff lock, while the tractor has high rpms.
If they are lucky only the spider gears break.
However I have had my Yanmars for many years without any problems, its all in the operator.

Hello everyone. I have this yanmar model. It is incredible hard to start the engine when its cold. Could it be a spark plug problem? pre heating with glow plug doesnt make any difference. the battery is charged. The tractor itself stays outdoor. Is there something i do wrong? Please, help.
You really should have started a new thread with this. Are you saying you have a f220 yanmar? Yanmars don't have spark plugs. Do you know if your thermostart is really working?

Today was -20 celcius. The battery was fully charged overnight in a warm place. Unfortunately tractor didn't start. After that I conected battery with another battery in a car. This time my yanmar started. Maybe it is a worn-out battery problem? Or maybe it is not sufficient for this type of tractor? its: 12v 74ah 680 en.
thermostart ? Actually I haven't found it. Maybe You could help me with this fotos? This thing that I have marked with red circle; could it be a plug?

Noncy, I don't think that is your thermostart unit, I think that may be the temperature sending unit. In this same forum look at the post entitled "thermostart vs magnetic oil pan heater. There are pictures there of a thermostart unit and components. I do not see a little plastic bottle that would be your reservoir for the thermostart. Does your ignition key have "TS" on one side of it? Another thing to consider is your compression release. I do not see one and don't know about the F220. I see holes in the side of the rocker arm cover in picture #3 about where the compression release shafts would go thru but really don't know whether yours ever had it or not. I'll conclude by saying these little diesels like fast rpms while cranking.

There is no plastic bottle. I have read this thermostart vs magnetic oil pan heater. It seems that the f series don't have thermostart
Also I have checked if these magnetic oil pan heaters are available here in Poland. Of course they aren't
Another thing is the compression release. I had had yanmar f 155 before the f220. The f155 had got compression release. The f220 hasn't got it.
Tomorrow I'm going to check if this thing I have marked is really a plug (glow plug?)
There is one more question. It's about that glow plug light indicator. When the weather is warm, this indicator turns off quickly. Right now it takes about 15 seconds to preheat. After about 5 times I do repeat the preheating process it should turn off faster, should it not?
After I managed to start the tractor and make the engine warm, the glow plug light turned off almost instantly during next cranking. So I assume the tractor read the temperature correctly but I'm not sure if the plug itself works correctly.
I'm going to try to replace the plug. If this wont help I'll try to change the battery.

Nocny, you should not have thermostart but MAY have glow plugs. Some models, I THINK, had glow plugs as options at purchase and therefore not all came with them. MY FX24D was a hard starter in the winter with glow plugs. I used the largest/strongest battery I could fit in the battery box for extended cranking needed in winter. Looks like you have a solution with the dual battery approach. High revs and patience.
You might go and check the glow plugs and their electrical circuit. If they are bad glow plugs are standard and readily available.

Nocny, that is a picture of your temperature sending unit. Nothing to do with heating fuel. Your second picture of the finned looking apparatus. Is there electrical going to that someplace? Sure looks like a heat exchanger. Glow plugs should be in the area of the injectors and I see none on yours. Not familiar with your model so maybe they are hid but I doubt it. Is that light on your dash labeled? Perhaps it is indicating the heat exchanger is working? Very very interesting.:licking:

I would think this is another version of a glow plug. Looks like it is heating up to warm the air going into the intake. I am assuming the rubber boot on the right side of the photo has electrical wires in it.

i would say thats it also, my toyota landcruiser has that style of heating element in the intake manifold instead of glowplugs. it runs for about 30 seconds after the vehicle is started then turns off, you notice the volt meter rise when it turns off.
