You had to "hot wire" your Ford for a fast idle setting?

FYI, the Dodge RAM diesel trucks (2004-present) ALL have a factory high idle setting (not just PTO trucks).
With the truck idling in park and e-brake set, press the Cruise ON switch followed by the SET switch. Idle increases to 1100. Use the ACCEL and COAST to raise or lower idle speed. I guess that is just another one of those Dodge/Cummins advances that the others added after Dodge did like an exhaust brake...

Warming the engine in the cold winter mornings, powering high draw electrical equipment from your alternator, etc...

Do the dodge gas engines have this feature or just the diesel?

What good is high idle if your not using the PTO?

Warming up the truck, jump starting other cars, pulling hay wagon across the field, ect. I use it more than you would think.

I believe I read on a Ford Forum that the 6.0 had a very similar feature.

Nothing really to hot wire. The wire is there, just not hooked up unless needed. I simply hooked it to the up-fitter switches Ford has. You know, the little features Ford comes out with and leads the pack such as Factory Brake Controllers, Up-fitter Switches, Man Steps.:laughing:

The others will catch up someday and have it also...

Actually the RAM has 4 integrated accessory up-fitter switches as well as room for more. The difference is it can also run tandem pumps on the PTO, has programmable engine speed settings, and a million mile diesel engine. You can keep the Man Step!

Glad they are keeping up with Ford. They had them 6 years ago. The lead the way and the others follow.

Whats funny about the Man Step is its a great idea. Only guys who make fun of it are the ones who's favorite brands do not have them, YET. Everyone I know with them like the feature.

I wired one of my upfitters for the high idle on my V10. When hooked directly to the switch it goes to about 1200 rpms. You can hook a potentiometer inline and adjust all the way up to 2k rpm.

I use it more than I thought especially any time there is a high current draw like full heat / ac with all lights on. I also have some aux lights on the back and a receiver mounted winch. May not even need it but there are quite a few more amps available at 1200 rpms than the 750 rpm idle.

Nice that Ford has it available on the gas motors also. Was not aware of that.
