Fabricated rear PTO guard

What type of Ironworker are you using? I am thinking about getting one and you are making me want one sooner than later!!!

Just curious, how old is your Rapid Tap? We had the old stuff pulled from the shelves at work a couple years ago, the new stuff (still Rapid Tap) is supposedly less toxic. Something carcinogenic about the old stuff, maybe fumes when it got heated?

I remember the first time I used the first generation stuff, it really didn't like aluminum.. smoke. The second generation (carcinogenic) was fine around aluminum. The new stuff (third generation) seems to work just as well, they just haven't found anything wrong with it yet I guess..

Sean that stuff must be a year old. I bought about four cans of it. Love the stuff but that's good info and I'll check it out to see if it got any nasty stuff in it. If It do I know what the Mother in law is getting for her birthday :laughing: By the way. When it comes to aluminum use WD-40. It's the best I've ever found for cutting. The ironworker is a 60 ton Edwards. Love the thing. It's been very handy to have in the shop. I bought it last June I think. Getting an ironworker is one thing but punches and dies is another. I bet I got another 4-5 grand in extras for it but again I just love it.

That's a pretty sweet way to tap things. My tap is just a T handle, but it works.

Really good question. I don't know why there needed as well especially on the Kubota Grand L. In these tractors if the PTO is engaged and you get up off the seat the machine shuts down. I do know now that every machine on the lot with rear PTO's got the guards in place. Might be a legal thingy.

I am not positive on the Grand L's, But on my L3400, you CAN be off the seat and have the pto running.

When you get off the seat and the PTO is engaged, you have about 1 second to flip the seat forward. If you do this the tractor will stay running. Very helpful for things like PTO generators, PTO driven logsplitters, ETC.

But I also dont see the need for it, I even took the one off the tractor that was similar to yours. (The flip up guard thingy). It was a PITA.

I have a T-handle too; but I try to use the hand tapper as much as possible to minimize tap breakage from the tap not going in square. My only gripes with it are that it was made in China, and that I had to cut off the protruding threads on the handles as they kept smacking the counterweight and arm.

To get around that problem, I put a PTO override switch on my rig. I think the skull & crossbones symbol I put on the label has kept the safety police at bay.

Thank you. Mine might be the same as yours that way. I'll have to try it. Truth is that I was so bored during the Christmas break I would have done anything to get out of the house so the PTO guard was the thing that did it :laughing: Appreciate your post. Thank you.
