Speaking of tractor myths...

Yep I disagree as well, my tractor has more power than weight for traction. I guess some people just like to spin their wheels more than I do.

What an interesting and diverse thread this has become! A Kioti that can't roll over a 2X4? Wow! My current "tractor" is a SEARS. Stands about 3 1/2 feet high. I can go over a railroad tie. Sounds like that Kioti needs work.

And the landini thing... I was looking at one, the little, 40 HP waif, and it was a shuttle-shifter. Dealer says you can shift from fwd to reverse at any speed and any gear. Dealer does not reccomend this course of action, but says the tractor will do it.

I agree the the cockpit looks cramped. Due to the low center of gravity, the seat is down between the tires. I don't see how you could turn sideways in order to back up for long periods. Still, what a chunk of iron! Would that I could afford it!

Maybe the Mahindra 10 series... My search continues.

Slowrev & Soundguy . . . I'll semi-weakly take the side of Getut on the issue of underpowered tractors, but I will qualify my position (sounds like a politician here).

For a tractor that does a lot of PTO work, many of the SMALL frame and some of MEDIUM frame CUTS (again we are talking about CUTS) are underpowered. Take a look at the original small frame NH tractors. TC18/21/24. I only considered the TC24 because the others simply didn't have enough PTO hp to justify their existance for me. Now someone who uses PTO powered equipment less than I do (particularly a mower or tiller) will easily argue a different postion. Again, Getut has a 21hp Kioti CK20, to him & to me that is an underpowered little tractor, it is the same general size as the TC24, it weighs a few hundred pounds more which is great for plowing fields, but it is the wrong tractor to use for farming, and it has less engine and less PTO hp. While I really like the CK20 and while I think it is the best 21hp tractor on the market, I would never even consider buying it because the TC24 offers too many advantages that I cannot pass up for my uses (most of them are in the extra PTO hp that allows for a larger mower deck). Again, Getut may have different uses than I do, but he may also have different uses than you guys as well.

No.. I guess my whole point is.. everybody finds good points in something. The only reason why I think anyone would buy lesser powered units on the same frame is for a cheaper cost?

If the price was nearly the same... who would not buy a 30 HP tractor on the CK20 frame (that would be approximately the same power to weight ratio as the Landini) and NOT say that the 30 HP version is the better of the 2 tractors?

That alone has been my point the whole time. The CK20 is a fine tractor.. but it would be BETTER if it had a 30HP engine. Would I get rid of the CK20??? If I were running Kioti, would I get rid of the 20HP version? Not likely because the reality of it is that the 30HP version and the 20HP version would NOT be the same price. Some people would buy the 20HP version purely for montary reasons.

I don't think anyone would buy the 20HP version and not secretly be drooling over the 30HP version. I think if Kioti created a 30HP tractor on the CK20 frame, it would be the king of the hill of smaller mid-size tractors.

Here is one last piece of logic on my more HP theory of the CK20. If it were a 30HP... it would "magically" last longer. Any mechanical item that does day in day out work at 60% of its capacity will far outlast the same item performing at 100% of its capacity.

Even over horsepower... perceived longevity is the #1 influential item in my buying decision. I am not made of money. I like the beef of the Kioti units. I did not like the HP rating and still do not. Look at the biggest majority of my posts and questions... they deal with how to extend the life of my tractor because it will be a LONG time before I can ever purchase again (especially with child number 2 about to come along any day now).

I'm sorry if people don't agree with what I have considered sound logic but there is a significant portion of what I have said in the previous few posts that is fact whether anyone will admit it or not.

getut, your arguement is sound. I agree with what you are saying. I wish my 21HP JD4110 was 30HP but I had to draw the line somewhere. I will be trying the 2x4 test later on. Currently I only use the High setting when traveling over a long distance with no PTO engaged...

And that is another reason why I advocate the largest engine in any given frame size.

There was a thread about the CK25 and I commented that it is grossly oversized for the engine and that if they would have put the 25hp engine in the CK20 frame they would have had a category killer machine. I was so soundly beaten for defending that position that you'd have thought I had invaded Korea for even bringing up the point that generally Korean tractors are really heavy and have smaller engines.

Personally I like the concept of the Landini and the other machines. But they are not CUTs and not practical for my uses. However, for a CUT, I want to have a bit of extra power for when the grass gets too tall or is wet or is thick or is all 3 of those things. And I want to be able to power a tiller that will cover my tracks without worry that I am straining the engine, and without the need to make a pass at 1/2 depth and then reset the tiller for pass #2 to get to full depth. I don't want a frame larger than I need, I don't want any more weight than I must have but beyond that excess weight is using more HP just to move the tractor (and apparently not over a 2x4 with the wide side down to avoid any confusion /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

When I read that I couldn't help but think of Deere's new 4720. It is a large-chassis CUT, but it is 58 hp with 50 pto hp. That definately leads the class with the highest available hp. I understand that Deere will be releasing a new mid-chassis CUT renumbered the 3000 Twenty series to replace the current mid-chassis 4000 Tens. From what I have read here on the boards the highest hp in that class will be 39. Not sure about the small-chassis, but if Deere keeps up with their pattern, the highest hp should be near 30.

IF they would put a real set of curved loader arms on a small frame CUT that has enough to PTO hp to comfortably run a 72" MMM, a 60" tiller and a 60" 3pt rotary cutter then I would be very interested in a machine like that!

By comfortably run I mean enough PTO hp so that the engine doesn't bog down when the going gets tough. I'm not talking about sparce Canadian lawns, I'm talking about thick, lush midwestern lawns mixed with dutch white clover that can choke a good mower deck.

And as for my comment about the real curved loader arms, I'm not talking about the cosmetic curve they designed into the 400x loaders, I'm talking a good curved loader like the New Holland TC and Farmall DX tractors use.
