Does ANYONE actually do the thorough checks and replacements they claim or are they all crooks?

There's several on eBay claiming to be selling "Factory Remanufactured" tractors with reset hour meters. I know (from reading here) to be weary of them, but I would like to know if there are SOME good dealers doing this? How do I tell if they ARE remanufactured or not? Seller in question is selling a FX335 currently on eBay located in Asheville, NC. I'm NOT trying to discredit this guy, I'm just skeptical.

What factory? What does "remanufactured" mean?

Lots of dealers put their tractors through their own, or a contracted, shop for needed repairs stateside. Believe me, every unit has SOMETHING that needs repair. No one does nothing to them, unless they are getting them from a wholesaler who already made repairs. Most of those being fixed stateside were decent or better tractors when they left Japan. Buck from EFC recently posted pics from Japan of units being bought up by one vn buyer. They are the absolute bottom of the barrel. Can they polish a t--d? Sure they can....but it's still just a polished t--d.

Read this THREAD and look at the pics posted by EFC.

There is no free lunch. There is no bargain tractor. There are some that are better buys than others. I still advocate buying the dealer, not the tractor. There is no way ANY dealer can be certain there will never be a problem with any unit he sells. The real key is starting with good equipment and then supporting it. Do you want something that sounds/looks good now, with no regard for the future, or do you want some assurance that you will be supported down the road? If you want the latter, it comes with a cost...and you have to do business with a reputable dealer.

When you see something advertised at "Factory Refurbished" you tend to think that the factory that refurbished it is the same one that built it. Yanmar, Shibaura, Iseki, Kubota, etc do not factory refurbish any of their tractors. These so called factories are privately owned work shops, mostly Vietnamese that so something to the tractors, I am not sure if it qualifies as refurbishing.

This dealer in Asheville, although he sold VN rebuilds, was pretty reputable and stood behind his products. He openly acknowledged that he didn't know what was done to these tractors and doubted that they did everything they said they did. He had about a dozen tractors in a row by the creek out back. I asked what these were and he said they were tractors that he had sold and the people had problems so he took them back. That being said, he just recently sold this business to someone else (thus the 0 feedback rating) Since this new guy is advertising "Factory" rebuilt, I don't believe I'd trust him just yet. The other guys never used the word "Factory" just refurbished. Time will tell.

That's what I was thinking. I emailed the guy and asked him about his feedback and he was a bit testy. I believe I'd rather have a tractor show some real hours than a spit shined one with zero. I live WAY WAY too far from this guy to have to take it back.
