Just curious...
Do the reds turn to yellows before they fall? In Texas, we have a lot of yellow and brown dotted with a few reds in the fall. Of course, it's just late summer here now. 80's today /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif.

Nope. Reds stay red and yellow stay yellow. I love walking thru the forest this time of year because it's like walking on gems!

Actually, the colors are always present, but the rest of the year are covered by the green of the chlorophyll. By watching the buds in early Spring you can tell if you have a colorful tree or not.

Great pictures of the fall colors. Here in Washington, the evergreen state, we get a wide variety of color. From evergreen rain forests to ever brown desert. I happen to be in the desert part, eastern Washington. But even with the sparseness of color, I love the fall.

Chris
Washington, the Evergreen State, well sorta

Man Pete, that is too nice. Our trees are just starting to turn here in the South, but I don't think they will get that nice. Thanks for the photo.

Re: Fall foliage - complete set

OK, instead of posting all my pictures I put up a test website you can see here. All the pics are about 250K so if you don't have a high speed connection, you might not want to look at anything but the thumnails.

Please let me know if you can or can't access the site...not sure if I set it up right.

Re: Fall foliage - here is mine

The deep reds in new england are typically red maples, which I don't think grow in texas.

Re: Fall foliage - here is mine

Hmm, I don't know much about trees, and there may be others, but the only maple I know of in Texas is the silver leaf maple.

Holy Cow, Pete! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

The only way I could get colors like that on my trees would involve Krylon products. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Oh, yeah -- and the next time you need help mowing your lawn, well... uh... just go ahead and start without me. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

And ejb -- I just took a very pleasant stroll through your web pages. Nice scenery. Nice job.

Out here in Californy, we're having yet another heat wave -- 90+ degrees and sunny. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Pretty soon, the only color we'll have out here is brown. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

So after looking at all the beautiful pictures in this thread -- and after watching the news today and over the past several weeks -- I walked out of the house this evening and was struck by the simplicity and fullness of this scene.

We do live in a beautiful country. And it goes far beyond the beauty of its landscapes.
