Fall foliage

 / Fall foliage #21
Out here in Californy, we're having yet another heat wave -- 90+ degrees and sunny. Pretty soon, the only color we'll have out here is brown.

Harv,

I don't know about where you live, but it's been brown over here since about the middle of July. I didn't think we lived that far apart.

However, the big leaf maple trees are starting to turn over here. Those, and a few other trees give us a taste of the fall colors.

It all depends on where you want to look, GlueGuy. Here in the burbs, we still have lots o' green trees and lawns. It's not until you look up at the hills of Mt. Diablo or Lafayette that you notice that the brown has taken over.

Up in the foothills, where my tractor property is, it's brown pretty much everywhere. In fact, RobertN can probably testify to the enormous fire danger right now. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Fall foliage - here is mine

Thanks for the botany refresher.... Of course, I new about the color being there all the time, but hadn't thought about it in a long time. Soon, my oak trees will start changing also and the combination of blackjacks, postoaks, redoaks, and liveoaks will provide a collage of color as well. Having said that, it cannot compare to the spectacular color you have, but I also love to walk through my oak woods during the fall. Lately, I've seen a lot of armadillos. That's one thing we have that you don't. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

He's not the only one. I have been out of town for a week or so (so have been disconnected from TBN), but just before I left, there was a lightning strike on the lower part of our property. It started a brush fire that was (fortunately) caught by CDF. They had 4 trucks and a small crew rush down our hillside to put it out. Took them about 3 hours to put it out (burned about a 1/4 acre).

The real surprise was that it took those guys another 3 hours to make it back up the hill with all that equipment!

I suppose I should post this in "Rural Living"?

Here are some I took a few hours ago... 77° and sunny/clear skies... amazing day! Funny though, that weather.com lists conditions as "mostly cloudy". /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I guess you can decide...

Took the photos about 1-3 miles from the northern PA border.

Outstanding, Muhammad! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Not only great scenery, but you have an incredible sense of composition with your camera.

You have a black belt in photography, too? /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks Harv... I think it's the camera that makes the photographer, right? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Muhammad,

Those are bee-u-ti-ful shots! I especially liked 3, 7 & 8. You could probably sell them as "posters."

By golly, Muhammad, I believe it's as pretty and colorful there as it is up in Pete's Vermont. We missed out on the colorful foliage when we were up there (first of April through August '93), but even then sure enjoyed both the scenery and the people we met.

Great shots, Muhammad! Wish I could have gotten out and about today. Instead I did my last mow of the season -- and started following some of Kubmech's advice in the "Winter's Coming" thread. I just finished -- and now it is "mostly cloudy."

Maybe tomorrow.

Great shots Muhammad!

I have been up to that part of NY several times, but I still don't think of that part of NY when I think "about" NY. Thanks for reminding me!

Boondox,

That's a really nice picture too, but the tree interests me more than the barn!

Beautiful shots Muhammad! Looks like you caught them at the perfect time. I turned one into a "watercolor"...I thought it looked interesting.

My photo can't compare to many of the others, but here is what things are looking like here in Maryland.

By the way, "Who needs a finish mower?" My Rhino flexwing rotary cutter does a pretty nice job, if I don't say so myself.

Hey Tim -- that looks like a deer, only smaller! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif One of the locals I let hunt my property took a 154# doe by arrow. Sure wish I could find some folks with doe permits during muzzleloader season; the damage they do to my trees is incredible!

Enjoy the fine meals you'll get from that fellow!
