Farm sales hours

A place near my barn has a sign by the road, announcing "free range eggs". I dropped by on Sunday afternoon, but nobody was home. What's the etiquette, here? When should I expect to find them open for business?

The German Baptist in our area leave a 50 quart cooler on the porch with the eggs in it. Self serve. Price ranges from 1.50 to 2.00 a dozen depending on size. All free range type birds. No Sunday sales.

Around here if they are a small hobby farm then they will sometimes have a road stand that often is unmanned. They leave the goods and you pay on the honor system. Some of the larger farms will have maned stands, really depends on the volume of products/produce being sold. Some, as stated in another post, will leave eggs and other items in a cooler on the porch or other convenient location. Have one neighbor nearby that leaves her house unlocked and her regular customers go in and get what they need. This neighbor is often out in the barn or fields and it seems to work out well for her.

We live in an expensive part of the world. We sell our free range eggs for $3.75 and that is going up to $4.00 this September. We will also be getting a few more chickens as we never seem to have enough eggs to sell.

Followed your advice, and got some eggs. Pulled into the driveway, parked next to a middle-aged New Holland tractor and an elderly F150 with farm-use tags. Looked around and saw a few goats, two cows, maybe 10 acres of grass, and a hay rig, but no chickens. Asked the proprietor where the eggs came from, and she said, "They're out at the farm. I bring a few dozen eggs with me whenever I come into town."

I guess there are different definitions for words like "farm" and "town", depending on how you grew up.
