My Farmall 100 has a rough time getting in gear. When the clutch is fully depressed, I usually have to hold it for 10-15 seconds and keep trying to get it in gear. Usually, I end up still having to grind it a bit and force it into gear. Based on what I have read, it sounds like there is an easy way to tighten some yoke rod or toggle the yoke rod but it isn't clear. Hopefully, I don't have to take the tractor completely apart to tighten the clutch (which I believe is the problem). Any thoughts?

These transmissions have straight-cut gears with no synchronizers, it's probably just simple inertia keeping the gears moving once you depress the clutch. My 130 is the same way. As long as the gears eventually stop moving and you can engage smoothly, then there is probably nothing wrong. Thicker trans oil may help them slow down.. check the level as well.

Unfortunately, the gears rarely stop moving completely and thus I find myself clenching my teeth and having to actively grind gears about 75% of the time. Also, the clutch pedal has way too much play, about 3 inches and that should be easily correctible, or at least I hope so ;-) if I only knew how.

I have the I/H shop manual for the 130, I'll look up the procedure when I get home and post it. You should only have 1/2 inch of free play before the throwout bearing hits...

The manual doesn't say much, it just says to adjust the clutch by varying the length of the clutch actuating rod with the nuts until the there is free travel of 1 to 1 1/4 inches. Procedure is the same for 100 and 130. The location of the nuts appears to be obvious from the drawing, just back from the pedal itself. Give it a shot, looks easy enough.

Double clutching probably wont help much if these are straigh cut spur gears in a non synchro tranny. Even if spinning slightly.. they will slide out of gear fine.. it is just getting them in gear that is the bear.. if the clutch drags.. etc.

The reason the gears keep on spinning is because the clutch disc isn't retracting from the flywheel far enough. Lube the splines where the disc slides with wd-40, and only then you'll be fine. I've worked on hundreds of farmalls so i know what i'm talkin' about here

Is this happening when you initally go to put it in gear, or does it happen when shifting? I ask, because these tractors are not made to shift; if you need 3rd gear, you start out in 3rd gear, or which ever may be the case. I tried shiftin my "A" like a car, and ground 'em...
I find too, whether the tractor or a car, sometimes if it does not drop right in gear, I will try reverse, then the gear I want. I don't release the clutch, when doing it; just slip it between. It usually goes right in to the gear I choose then. Must be something lining up that was just off a little.
Otherwise, it may be a mix of adjustment, lubrication ect too, as mentioned by other posters.
