Those Cubs ARE good looking tractors, no doubt about that.

My Allis "G" has the 4-speed and hydraulics, those a pretty good options on those tractors...

John Deere "L" has the best engine of all those size tractors of that era...

IF only they were an OHV engine with a 4 speed trans, better yet a 4 speed with hi/lo... Truth is, for PTO work, they could use a few more HP too...

I like the Allis "G" for gardening better, but it could use a few more HP too, but at least you could get them with a 4 speed...

Farmalls have overhead valve engines.

Here's my Dad (rip) on my grandfathers Cub after he brush painted it. Amazing all the work we did with it.
My neighbor/friend was in the dairy business. One hay his Dad's large tractor in for repairs and he had to move a large filled hay wagon. The Cub moved it to his disbelief...slow in 1st but no problem.

You better look at the cub again... and then get back to me...

You are correct. The Cub and the first F-12 had flathead engines. The A and the rest going forward had OHV engines...according to my research.
