Have a good look around the row of trees that there are no water pipes or telephone lines etc that will be pulled up with the roots also be carefull around the footings of the building . A little job can turn into a big job very easily .

How much lift strength does your tractor have? These small bushes/shrubs will act like they are cemented to the ground, you will need to either dig around them and rock them to allow them to come out.
My Case 1845 C has 3,500 pounds of lift and that is not enough to pull a 3 inch tree out of Florida sand. The first few will teach you heaps and most of all be very careful doing this. Now if you had a tree bucket like I built it would be much easier for you. Picture of tree bucket HERE .
Now I'm more confused than ever MrJimi. lets please start from the top. without digging out the specs, I've got a JD 990 w/ 8B backhoe and an F450 dump truck. I've got chains and I can rent a stump bucket if necessary. I've got 200 +/- feet of hedges to remove and dispose of in 2 weekend days and one son to help me. please take it from the top again. with this equipment available, what would you bring and how would you approach it. thanks.

Your back hoe will do your job just fine, be very careful near the building, the roots may have attached themselfs to it

I've been doing something similar with my tractor and a home made cable. I'm removing Honeysuckle that has gotten way out of hand. I wrap the cable a couple of times around the base of the shrub, gives it more grip when I pull on it. I then hook the cable to the draw bar and start pulling with the tractor. Ya I know the safety police will comment, but I keep the draw bar as low and it will go. Honeysuckle has surface root and are pretty easy.

The challenge you're going to have is you're working next to a house, which makes using the FEL a bit more tricky. Personally I'd bring the backhoe if it isn't much more difficult to load.

As far as hauling them off, if you pay by the pound to dump em I'd let em sit a couple of weeks. Better yet come back with a chipper and turn em into mulch. You get a certain satisfaction as you toss some of the more difficult ones into the chipper. Well at least I do. :D

I hear you on the building. that part is going to be delicate. it's an old garage.

Okay. tractor with backhoe it is. long distance towing is never fun, but better safe than sorry.

The first few will be hard but you will find some shortcuts with trial and error and when the wall on the building moves... STOP
You will be an expert when all done and all these tips that were provided in this thread will come in your mind

Backhoe is no more trouble or weight than the ballast box. haven't decided on the brush chipper. that will probably be one of those last minute decisions provided we figure out how to catch the mulch and transport it without making even more of a mess.

Shoot the mulch/chip onto a tarp.. Then haul them where ever you want. You can tie up the trap into a nice package, pick it up with the FEL and put into the truck.

if you have forks you could put the tarp onto a pallet before filling with mulch, makes it easier to pickup afterwards.
