Personally, I think whatever will stop the inconsiderate individual that decides to invade my home and from getting to my wife and kids would be the best.

At minimum, it could be a Red Rider or even a Daisy bee-bee gun. I think you could calm the situation with a large left-hand around the neck and a large high velocity right-fist to the jaw.

However...my Dad used to have rifle nicknamed the "Elephant Gun". I'm not sure what it was, but it sure left one **** of a hole in whatever you shot at!

I also saw the article you saw. I found it ironic that all the arms they are trying to get their hands on are 50yrs old. Gota love the spray and pray technology huh?

By the way,I like my .45 too but its a little large for concealment. )</font>

Wasn't it in the early 20th century before WWI that the U.S. military was having difficulties with the .38 revolvers in stopping power and that is where the .45 came to be.
And their thinking now is more is better /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No doubt a good move, I would much rather see them with a large caliber and a skilled hand... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The .38 proved to be a bit anemic during an insurrection in the Philippines (after the US seized the PI from the Spanish). From what I read, the natives were taking some type of drug (smoking or chewing it) and when shot, kept coming on. That's the story that lead to the .45 ACP.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I prefer the 9 mm....but I must admit, the .45 has more knock down power if one takes a round in a non-lethal part of the body. Just the size of the bullet...

Of course, with modern +P and +P+ ammo, I doubt if there's that much difference today.

That's exactly what a good friend of mine who is Major General told me. He insisted on carrying his Colt .45 as his personal side arm. He was hit 11 times with different calibers when he served in VN. He said his worst injury came when a "g***" (the only thing he will call the guy) ran up to his vehicle with a 12 gauge 00 shell affixed to the end of a stick that was rammed into the door next to him. Apparently this was a common method of attack. His 1st Lieutenant who was driving him then demonstrated what his K-bar would do to the attacker. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

And this is apparently a major problem in Iraq/Afghanistan...I have read articles, and several communications from officers there, stating that more and more they find opiates being used by the terrorists (result of post-mortems), so they remain dangerous until the body physically fails....which can still be several minutes after receiving an irreversibly lethal wound.

I also keenly remember a situation near us over 20 years ago...guy in early 20s, high on angel dust, broke into a home randomly. Physically beat up father & teen age athlete son (i.e., if he's not high they probably kick his touche), is beating mother when daughter finally turns his lights out with a lamp over the head...repeatedly. Cops arrive, he is already recovering from the "lamping", and it takes 8 (yes, eight) to physically subdue him. A buddy of mine was there....he said it changed every perspective he had about dealing with druggies. He could not believe the superhuman strength the perp seemed to have.

Where can I get some of that stuff? I have a big, heavy Xmas tree to put up soon and could use the extra oomph.

Hmmm, reminds me of the Rodney King deal.....I thought it was ironic that his friends refused to get out of the car to help and the jury sided with the police after seeing the whole tape of the incident. Wish the media would start to portray the real TRUTH to the American public so there wouldnt be so many "anti-everythings" out there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif With so many people in this country being fed half the story, its easy to see why we're in such trouble here...

Fact is there is nothing "new" in the grunts feeling on fire power.

5.56 is too small. Gee, wonder of wonders. Guys have been complaining about that caliber since day one.

.308 is good. Still a reason why the M1A is still around.

The SAW has ALWAYS been a piece of crap.

Until you see what a .50 can do, you can't understand it's effectivness (sp?). It's always nice when you can shoot and direct fire and not have to worry about small arms incoming.

As far as the .357 SIG? Seems alot like the new .45 GAP as far as "marketing" in the caliber. Hard to convince me that a .357 Sig is better than a 10mm or .44 (or .45 for that matter). Another question is if Texas picked the .357 Sig, why didn't everyone else? My point is not to pick on the Sig .357 round, but at times it seems like ballistics are a little like statistics when it comes down for the state or goverment to spend money on a handgun/caliber.

Hey Sig, I agree. My favorite 2 calibers have always been the .45 for a handgun, and the .308 for shoulder fired.
My favorite rifle is my new Springfield Arms M1A Socom 16.
Never did like the .223.
