Just seems like your under utilizing (sp?) a .308 in a 16" barrel! (I can't own two M1A's so that's my excuse! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Check out some of the FAL configurations in 16". Magazines and parts are alot cheaper!

ALTHOUGH the Springfield 16" M1A is a NICE looking rifle.

I just bought an FAL (w/ standard-length barrel) on Saturday. As fine an example of form following function (and still being darned good looking) as anything I've ever seen.

LMTC,

15-20 years ago I remember a story in a south Florida paper that was similars to yours. I think the story was local unless it was in Parade or one of the other Sunday inserts. The thug was high on cocaine. He went to a house which I think was picked at random and broke in. At some point he ripped a door off its hinges and starts tearing up the house. The Police get there and the fight starts. He was throwing officers around the room while they beat him with PR24/night sticks. No mace/peppers spray back then and in any case the spray may not have worked on him. Eventually enough officers got there to control the man but a few of the officers were hurt. Somthing like 10 officers to control this guy. He eventually dies from all of the drugs he had taken. His internal body temperature was in the 100's hours after he died. I guess that is not normal. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I just read in gun magazine, so you know its true, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif that the US has put out to bid the purchase of over 600,000 45 pistols. Sounds like the 9mm might be on the way out.

Do you mean the .45 out for just the military or also LE?

Funny how "we" started out with the good old 1911, and may be going back with the same "basic design".

Can't see all the LE's changing from the 9mm though. To many issues with "more powerful round" as far as being able to hit their target so to speak.

One reason why the .40 has become so popular. Not as "big" as the .45, but more "punch" than the 9mm (if an "agency" is still using the 9mm and still hasn't switched to the .40, not sure why they would at this point).

I'm still curious what the fate of the .45 gap is going to be.

Sigarms,

I'll have to go back and read the tidbit in the magazine. I think its on one of the last pages of American Handgunner Jan/Feb. The way I read the info the 45s were for the military not LE. There was some verbage about the "system" or some such the pistol had to support. I don't think the Federal LE department buy under one big contract anyway. And 600,000+ pistols would pretty much cover ALL the LEOs, local, state and Federal for all of the US. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If indeed the Military is looking at changing "overall" from the M9, it will be interesting on the "spec's" laid out for the bid by the goverment. Let the politics begin.

My .357 SIG in a SIG P229 works excellent on wild boars up to 250 pounds, penetration is absolutely terriffic for one shot kills! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is the tibbit from the magazine.

The FEDS, their capitalization /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, want up to 645,000 .45s to replace the Berretta nine. The list of features is long, they don't list them though but they mention some will be with an external safety and some without. Its called the Joint Combat Pistol System, JCP. It should be a commercially available if possible.

Our federal government at work!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Pretty sad, you'd think WWII would have been enough proof for caliber and pistol type.

I agree.

But...try "lugging" around 300 rounds of .308 compared to 5.56 ammo. I'm not saying this is the only reason for the 5.56, but there are usually "intangibles" (sp?) that you may not think of when "picking" a caliber (also I guess it also comes down to who takes who out to dinner, who has "nice" trips packages available to what committe (sp?) member and such). Things that the common citizen won't know about (and on that note, who in America really cares? that's the sad part).

Sad thing is that it's never the people who actually have to use the weapon who picks what they are going to use.

Common sense I don't think is the norm.
