Fear of purchasing

You mean like still using moms 1967 Kenmore dryer that needed one belt under $5 since new or her 1968 Amana Freezer?

Still have great grandma’s Philco refrigerator in the garage dating from the 50’s.

My new car is 22 years old and my old car is 119 years old..

At the cabin the 1940’s Wedgewood gas Range will outlive us all…

Appliances were investments and came at a dear price… today cheaper to landfill them and replace…

Can’t tell how many unhappy LG customers I know with compressor failures and Neptune Washing Machines with issues.

Does anyone else have a fear of purchasing things due to the fear of the item breaking shortly after purchasing it. Remember when washing machines lasted a generation?
Remember when a car was considered nearly worthless if it hit 100,000 miles and wasn't on it's second engine and transmission.

Yes… we used 100,000 miles as the measure of useful life when allocating arbitration awards.

I remember growing up in Michigan in the 60's & 70's when you couldn't get financing for longer than three years on a new car as they would typically rust out by the three-year mark. I bought a new Plymouth in 1977 and the fenders were rusting within two years and only one Michigan winter. Ziebart rustproofing came along and really added years to a car's longevity, eventually manufacturers caught on. In the meantime, I moved away from Detroit iron for brands that were more reliable and lasted longer.

I understand the common complaint in this thread. So I'll ask this:
- Do you do your own taxes?
- If you argue with the assessor do you say "I just feel....'.
- Do you start threads about the best oil, gas, etc, is it again feelings?**
- do you even change your own oil? ****

So many complaints are from people who should know better.(?) The problem is even after the repair bill they still haven't learned anything so they have a hard on for the Mfr or mechanic. If they strained their oil or sent a sample, they'd know. Oh, what's all that sparkly stuff? There's a hint. Nope....

I've worked on everything from locomotives to mega Goss presses to lawnmowers and 10 second 1/4 mile stuff and the problems are mainly the same - it's something you saw, or should've seen, earlier. If you delegate your maintenance it is no better than who did it. So I don't want to hear about bad dealers/service. You just have a shitty shop.

** I have stayed with ALL the same stuff since the early '90s. I buy the same oil for everything but I might adjust the weight when it's 100f+. I run 10% ethanol in the road rigs. I run red #2 in everything off road diesel. I won't buy anything that needs DEF.

*** If you've ever broken down an engine that you 'have maintained' it should've been a fluke. You would see exactly what happened and it was probably your mistake (electronics excluded). You swear you'd never let THAT happen again, or;
You take your stuff to a professional 'mechanic'. Bless you.
If its a trusted neighbor he'll probably shake his head and say he already has children. You buy him steaks.

So many complaints are ridiculous. If one spent as much time finding a quality mechanic and paying the bill because he is good there would be no complaint. Except for your operation of the equipment.

Yeah, I argued with the Assessor.
He said, "How much do you feel your property is worth". I looked at him and said "But don't you go based on the sales instead?" To which he replied. Yes. I had him there cause he wanted me to value it higher. That's how they get people. I didn't pay that and he knew it even before I walked in the door.

And yes, I do my own taxes (Turbo tax keeps it straight) , and change my own oils in all my stuff. It matters cause if I screw it up it's on me. (and I do once in a while which does suck)
