FEL CounterWeight On 3 Pt. Hitch

Kozak,

Don't be intimidated by others.

I don't post close up pics of my welds.

I spray paint my stuff before posting pics. The Kryon hides a lot of welding inconsistencies if you aren't doing close ups.

Here's what I'm leaving on the 3 pt for snow and other FEL work.

Have a little trouble with the tines gouging dirt or pavement if I go up a slope or into a dip though. Was thinking maybe something just attached to the drawbar similar to what you came up with.

Get some of that Rust Reformer (Rustoleum brand) or Rust Extender (NAPA brand) and put a couple coats on that metal to inert it and turn it black. This is what I used on the soil ripper.

Ralph

I've built a few c/w for self and neighbors consisting of carrier for 55gal plastic drum. Fill with water to desired weight (up to 400lbs) and also doubles as tree waterer with siphon hose with valve.

I've left the backhoe on as a counterweight this year ... all I had. No doubt the weight helps a great deal, but I'm still working towards something more compact. Almost took out the garage the other day /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

I've found that weight it OK as long as you're on snow. We had a bad batch of feezing rain and there was ice everywhere. I needed chains then. Luckily I borrowed some from a friend. Great heavy ones with rings like a skidder. Only got one on (still can't get the other power adjust wheel to free up so I can move it out to give clearance) but it made a night and day difference. Had to brake the other wheel now and then (no diff lock).

Thanks for posting the pictures, it's sure a nice compact, simple design. Andrew

I really like this design. It's so easy to get just the right amount of weight you need, and doesn't take up much space. Simple for any welder to put together as well. Thanks for the post. John

Great job with those counter-weights.
Mine are attached or holded on the draw bar. I want to build something for the 3 point, but I'm concerned that everytime that the tractor bounces on a rock or a hole, some piston of the 3 point is taking the sudden shock of those 400-500 pounds...... am I exagerating on that shock issue or is it totally safe for the pistons to hold those weights and shocks over the long run (5-10 years)???

CostaRica,

I don't thinks it's an issue. Think about the weight of some of the implements that can be attached & the stresses that are imposed for ground engaging equipment......becomes a mute point. Go for it !!

This is one I builded, at around 700# it's no problem with bouncing or anything like that. It feels like it adds more hp and it really makes a difference.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now that's a very nice setup with a toolbox for the chainsaw and other acc. Nice job. Now I know what I need next. I'm tired of dumping my tools from the bucket by accident.
