How difficult is it to remove and repair a leaking Hyd. cylinder leak on a Kubota L2600.

Not hard - remove the pins, hoses, have lots of rags and a bucket handy to drain the oil. You will need a spanner wrench (2 prongs approx 2" across) or a large pipe wrench but they might mar the end cap.

Remove the end cap/seal and pull out the piston remove the nut holding the piston on and replace the seals, then the end seals. Get 2 sets of all the seals you need just in case you damage one they are cheap.

Reassembly is a little more critical to make sure the piston seal doesnt get ruffled by the internal threads suggest using some thin plastic like a milk jug wrapped around the piston to guide past the threads.

Of course there are shops that do this too and check and straighten bent shafts and so on, so if yours is bent I would suggest a hyd. shop.

Thanks for the info! dosent seem like it would be to bad. I feel like it would be good to know before I get this tractor up in the woods where it may not be a convient option to run it into town. I am gonna replace all the hyd. hoses for the FEL section, figured I would repair small leak at cylinder at the same time.

Thanks again
Ron

Thanks Will, That kinda of put a much better picture in my mind! I would think the only tool you might need is the spanner. I have to think that the inside seal dosent need a special tool. Not sure until I get into it.

Thanks Ron

Will - great reference doc from Bradco on the process! I sort of did this from memory..10+ years ago when I did this.

brfd15 - if its a small leak - drips/drops or a spot on the floor under the bucket I would let it go for now, as the former owner ran this for a few hours a yeat over 10 yrs, likely seals are dry and leak more with infrequent use. Once you start using it they could stop..

My B21 had a drip from the left dump cyl when new, the dealer replaced the seals and at 200 hrs stared again, but when I run it every day it doesnt leak as much vs when I run every week or so.

Carl -- Just wanted to say thanks -- Just brought home a YM3110D today and everything is fine EXCEPT a small hydraulic leak from the divider block for the FEL -- I know the tractor hasn't been run much in the past two years from the previous owner -- I was going to take the valve apart tomorrow and drop some "O" rings in, but will drag my feet now and just work the tractor and see if things begin to slow down a little. - I should have thought of this myself, but haven't worked with hydraulics for many years -- good call.

Thanks - Don

Thanks for the info. I am in the same spot, tractor hasnt been used in 2 years so maybe I will use it locally for a while and see how the cylinder leak does.

Update: I used the tractor for about an hour yesterday after I picked it up and got it home.. when I got through I saw the leak.. I could also see where it had leaked on the tractor some.

This morning it didn't appear to have a leak before I fired it up (engine off testing by activating the valve levers).. drove it over to my land about a 1/2 mile from here and moved some dirt around and checked on the well driller (water well being drilled)... total run time today was about an hour and a half (yea, bs with the well driller for awhile)...

On the way to the property I saw one or two drops fall from the valve... I watched it alot and that is all I saw... could have been more, just didn't see them... by the time I got back I tested the valve like I did yesterday and sure enough, things seem to be swelling up... the hydraulic fluid is almost totally stopped from leaking -- I'm going to give it a week or so of operation and "swelling time" to see how it does before making any moves to replace "O" rings... sweet!

BTW this tractor (new to me) is operating really well and everything is in excellent condition for a tractor of that age -- The compression release "rod lock" on the dash is broken (plastic) and that is about the only defect that I have found so far (but the compression release works fine) and I can fabricate a replacement for that setup in the shop from metal so no biggie.

It's a YM3110D with FEL and quick detach bucket and a box gannon that is working really well for me... Picked up the machine for $5500 and I felt pretty good about that - 1100 hours on the clock.
