Here's my problem: I have two farms, about 15 miles apart. One is our "country place", mostly in planted pines, but with about 10 acres open. I have a 600 Ford in really good shape at the small place. I need a tractor with a FEL, and don't really want to put one on the old Ford. I have a later model 135 with ps at the other farm. I have considered a new CUT, but money issues, as well as the fact that I really need more of a "farm" type tractor make me hesitant to buy a new one. We (my brother and I) need a larger tractor at the main farm (a hay and cattle operation). Is it feasible to put a FEL on the MF? If so, who makes a loader for that application? I worry about the front-end on the 135. Can it stand the gaff? I can buy the 135 from the farm very reasonably, as the dealers in this area don't want to allow much in trade on that old a tractor. It seems the deer hunters either spend the big bucks (pun intended) for a new tractor, or go the grey market route. We also have a NH 6640 with a loader, but running back and forth between my "country place" and the main farm isn't really an option.

What do you think?

redlevel;

i think you have several options...1st.. around here, 135's sell VERY well - like 5k and up for prettier ones. you ain't that far away, so I would assume your area is similar. so, one option is to sell the 135 and then buy a used/new tractor similar in size, but with 4wd and a fel.

as far as that 135 handling a fel...it will, but you can't expect it to carry a really heavy load. and, it will be difficult to steer in some situations with weight on the front end..having said that, you may wish to look at a freeman brand fel. also, virtually any MF dealer can hook you up with a MF, Quicke, BushHog, or other fel. my father has a MF 65 with a freeman fel, and it works reasonably well, but is hard to steer with a heavy load..

anyhow - so what kind of dogs do you hunt - setters or pointers? (i too love quail huntin' and use pointers at present).

SouthernMan: There has been a 135 on the farm since 1967, so I sort of hate to get rid of it! It seems that 135's don't bring quite what they used to around here. Most everybody wants something a little smaller (CUT) or a little bit larger, 50-70 hp. In my estimation there has never been a better utility tractor made. We farmed 150 acres with two of them for several years.

Right now I have a Llewellin Setter. I took him up to Jackson, Tenn. to have him trained. Actually a smaller town called Trenton, on the Trenton-Eldad road to be specific. The trainer is Phil Fortner, a semi-retired eye-doctor. We don't have many wild birds now, so I usually hunt him over pen-raised quail. Oh, for the good old days when 8 to 10 coveys was just an average day!!

The 135 will handle the loader but the hydraulics are not going to be that fast unless you have a pump. We have had a 35 than a 135 to me you are rite it is the best all around farm tractor ever created,and still the most used on our farm.

Ok birddogs and Massey's in the same thread, I think I have found heaven on the net.

The only prolem is you guys have those dogs with tails, get a brittany and you'll have the best of both worlds: A Massey Ferguson tractor and a Birttany.
